The SKF 29236 E axial self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high axial forces on one side whilst compensating for misalignment, and measures 180 × 250 × 42 mm.
The 29236 E axial self-aligning roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the barrel rollers arranged at an angle to the bearing axis and the hollow spherical housing disc, the bearing transmits heavy axial loads and compensates for misalignment or shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and featuring standard tolerances to P0 and ABEC 1, it offers the precision required for heavy-duty mechanical engineering.
This design is intended for industrial applications involving very high axial loads, where elastic deflection of the shaft or misalignment between the shaft and housing may occur. Thanks to the spherical raceway of the housing disc, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment, thereby preventing unacceptable edge stresses. As the design acts on one side only, it absorbs axial forces in one direction and can also transmit radial load components.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely and is designed for a temperature range of -30 °C to +200 °C. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the lubricant and external seals must be appropriately matched to the operating conditions. During assembly, it must be noted that the shaft and housing washers can be fitted separately and that a minimum axial load should be applied during operation to prevent the rollers from slipping.
This bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high axial loads in one direction, whilst also withstanding radial forces. The spherical housing raceway allows for angular movement, enabling the component to compensate for misalignment between the shaft and the housing without causing premature wear.
The bore for the shaft is 180 mm. The outer diameter of the housing disc is 250 mm and the overall width is 42 mm. These standardised dimensions allow for straightforward replacement in existing assemblies.
When used in conjunction with the 100Cr6 material and the steel sheet cage, the component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +200 °C. The actual upper temperature limit during operation is largely determined by the thermal stability of the selected grease or oil.
P0, or ABEC 1, denotes the standardised tolerance for rolling bearings in general mechanical engineering. It defines permissible deviations in dimensions, form and running accuracy, which are suitable for the vast majority of industrial drive applications that do not require special precision.
Axial-thrust roller bearings require a continuous axial force whilst in operation. If the static load or shaft preload is insufficient, the barrel rollers will lift off the raceways in places. This leads to a breakdown of the lubricating film, sliding motion and increased wear on the contact surfaces.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated seals. Prior to commissioning, application-specific lubrication with a suitable lubricating oil or grease must be provided, and the bearing housing must be sealed externally to prevent the ingress of dirt.
