The SKF 29330 E axial self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 150 × 250 × 60 mm, accommodates high unilateral axial forces and compensates for misalignment.
The 29330 E axial self-aligning roller bearing belongs to the group of self-aligning roller bearings designed primarily for axial loads. Thanks to the barrel-shaped rolling elements on a spherical housing raceway, this design compensates for both static and dynamic misalignments of the shaft. At the same time, the bearing accommodates radial load components in addition to axial forces. Manufactured from 100Cr6 bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design, this version is designed for demanding industrial drives in continuous operation.
Design engineers primarily select the 29330 E axial self-aligning roller bearing for heavy-duty shaft supports where high axial forces and elastic shaft deflection occur simultaneously. Typical applications include large industrial drives and vertical shaft lines subject to high unilateral thrust loads. The spherical housing raceway prevents edge stresses on the rollers when the shaft deflects slightly under load. Furthermore, the rolling bearing withstands shock loads without impairing the guidance of the shaft collar.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with low friction and keeps the weight of the rotating components to a minimum. The component is resistant to common lubricating oils and greases. Together with the rolling bearing steel, the bearing assembly covers a thermal operating range from -30 to +200 degrees. As this is a single-direction bearing of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, operation requires a constant minimum axial load to ensure the rollers run without slippage.
This roller bearing combines a high axial load-carrying capacity with the ability to compensate for angular misalignment. The spherical raceway automatically compensates for misalignment between the housing and the shaft. The bearing is designed to act on one side only; however, in addition to the primary axial load, it can also accommodate radial components of the load.
The main dimensions are 150 mm internal diameter (bore), 250 mm external diameter and 60 mm overall height or width. These dimensions correspond to the standardised specifications for this size and allow for installation on suitable shaft journals and in appropriate bearing housings.
The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The components, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, and the robust sheet steel cage can withstand these temperatures. The thermal load capacity of the selected lubricant remains the decisive factor for the actual range of applications.
P0 and PN denote the standard tolerance for rolling bearings in accordance with international standards, comparable to the US ABEC 1 classification. They define the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies. This precision class is entirely sufficient for most industrial applications and standard gearboxes.
Axial-thrust roller bearings are not self-retaining. To prevent the rollers from lifting off the raceways and to avoid harmful slippage, a minimum axial force must always be applied during operation. This load is generated either by the shaft’s own weight, the operating load or by mechanical spring preload.
The sheet steel cage keeps the barrel-shaped rollers at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. It is characterised by high strength whilst taking up minimal space. This leaves sufficient free space inside the bearing for the circulation of grease or lubricating oil.
