The FAG 51118 axial deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 90 × 120 × 22 mm, reliably absorbs unilateral axial forces in mechanical engineering.
The FAG 51118 axial deep-groove ball bearing supports rotating shafts against unidirectional axial forces. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly through the raceways. With an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 22 mm, this rolling bearing is suitable for industrial assemblies as well as for scheduled replacement during maintenance.
This axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to accommodate purely axial forces from a single direction. Due to its design, no radial load may act on the component, which is why designers often combine the bearing with separate radial bearings. Typical applications include vertical shaft guides and machine configurations with a unilateral thrust load. Thanks to its open design without a seal, the bearing can be integrated directly into the customer’s existing lubrication circuits.
The bearing has a flat housing washer and is fitted without a shim. Consequently, the system is not angularly adjustable and requires precisely perpendicular contact surfaces on the shaft and housing to prevent edge running. Thanks to its standard tolerance grade (P0/PN or ABEC 1), the component fits precisely into standardised bearing seats. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
With a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 22 mm, this axial bearing complies with the standardised key dimensions for a 1:1 replacement. The shaft and housing bore must be matched to these nominal dimensions to ensure that the shaft and housing washers make full contact across their entire surface.
As a single-acting design, the bearing accommodates only axial forces from a defined direction. The component cannot support pure or superimposed radial forces. If combined loads occur, it is advisable to supplement the arrangement with a separate radial bearing to support the shaft in the transverse direction.
The permissible operating temperature range extends from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage fitted are designed for these temperatures. In practical applications, the lubricant used is the main limiting factor, which is why the grease or lubricating oil must be suitable for the respective operating temperature.
No, this version is not angle-adjustable. As the bearing is designed with a flat housing washer and without a spherical washer, it is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The contact surfaces of the connecting parts must be flat and perpendicular to the axis of rotation in order to prevent localised overloading of the rolling elements.
With the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, this component offers practical running and dimensional accuracy for general mechanical engineering. This allows for trouble-free installation on standardised shaft seats without the need for special machining of the mating surfaces.
FAG fits this model with a sheet steel cage. The cage maintains an even spacing between the balls, prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another and ensures they are guided in the raceways. Sheet steel is characterised by its low weight and thermal stability during operation.
