The SKF 51205 axial deep groove ball bearing accommodates unilateral axial forces whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 25 × 47 × 15 mm.
The 51205 axial deep groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing designed to accommodate pure axial forces in one direction. This SKF model consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring and a guided ball set. As it is manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the component offers dimensional stability during operation. The manufacturing accuracy complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and meets standard industrial precision requirements in mechanical engineering and fixture construction in a practical manner.
Design engineers use this bearing type where shafts need to be axially supported and guided at the same time. The bearing absorbs axial loads from one direction and holds the shaft in the intended position. As axial deep-groove ball bearings cannot accommodate radial forces, the radial guidance of the shaft is provided separately by additional radial bearings. Typical applications include assemblies subject to predominantly axial loads in general industrial and fixture engineering.
During assembly, the precise alignment of the mating parts is crucial. As this design is not angle-adjustable and is supplied without a spherical washer, the housing and shaft shoulders must be perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Otherwise, misalignment will lead to localised edge stresses on the raceways. The integrated sheet steel cage maintains the correct spacing between the rolling elements. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +150 degrees, although the selected lubricant must be suited to the respective operating temperature.
The bearing has a 25 mm bore for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 47 mm at the housing flange and a total width of 15 mm when fitted.
No, this thrust bearing is designed exclusively to accommodate axial loads. If additional radial forces act on the bearing, these must be absorbed by separate radial bearings.
‘Single-acting’ means that the bearing can only accommodate axial forces from one direction. It therefore fixes the shaft in one axial direction, whilst the opposite direction remains unguided or is counteracted by a second bearing.
The 51205 axial deep-groove ball bearing is not angle-adjustable and is supplied without a washer. The mounting surfaces in the housing and on the shaft must be machined so that they are exactly perpendicular to the bearing axis in order to prevent premature wear.
The design of the steel discs and the sheet steel cage allows for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The lubricant used must also be suitable for this temperature range.
Both the raceways and the balls are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The cage, which guides the rolling elements, is made of sheet steel.
