Axial Deep Groove Ball B. FAG 51112

The FAG 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 60 × 85 × 17 mm, supports single-sided axial loads in mechanical engineering and fixture construction.

The 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing absorbs pure axial forces from one direction and guides the shaft axially to one side. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), the component withstands high compressive stresses on the rolling elements. FAG equips this design with a sheet steel cage that keeps the balls spaced apart. The bearing operates within a temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees and complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1).

What loads can the 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodate?

This rolling bearing is primarily designed to accommodate axial forces in stationary or guided axles and shafts. As it is a single-direction axial bearing, it supports only axial thrust forces from a defined direction. The component must not be used to support radial loads; combined loads therefore always require a separate radial bearing for lateral support. Typical applications include bearings in mechanical engineering subject to purely single-sided axial loads.

What is important to bear in mind when installing the single-acting bearing?

Design engineers must bear in mind that this series is not angularly adjustable. The mating surfaces on the shaft and housing must be flat and machined at right angles to the axis of rotation, as misalignment leads to localised edge stresses on the raceways. The scope of supply includes the axial deep-groove ball bearing without a washer. During assembly, care must be taken to distinguish between the shaft washer and the housing washer: the shaft washer has a 60 mm bore with a tight fit, whilst the housing washer is larger to allow the shaft to pass through without contact.

What are the dimensions of the 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing?

The bore is 60 mm, the outer diameter is 85 mm and the axial depth is 17 mm. Thanks to this standardised cross-section, the axial bearing can be easily integrated into existing housing designs, provided that the mounting surfaces are flat and perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

What components does this roller bearing consist of?

The unit comprises a shaft washer with an internal diameter of 60 mm, a housing washer with an external diameter of 85 mm, and a ball ring with a sheet steel cage situated between them. In this configuration, the bearing is fitted without any additional washers.

Can the 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing compensate for angular misalignment?

No, 511 series bearings are not angle-adjustable. They have flat seating surfaces and are sensitive to misalignment or tilting between the shaft and the housing bore. The seating surfaces must therefore be machined precisely at right angles to the shaft.

In what temperature range can the component be used?

The permissible operating range is from -30 to +150 degrees. The standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) used, as well as the sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability up to this upper limit. When designing the system, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used is also suitable for these operating temperatures.

Can the bearing withstand radial forces?

Axial deep-groove ball bearings must only be subjected to axial loads. If transverse forces occur within the system, these must be fully absorbed by a separately mounted radial bearing. Radial forces would displace the housing washer and rapidly damage the rolling element raceways.

What is the bearing’s tolerance class?

The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard tolerance meets the usual accuracy requirements of general mechanical engineering and offers a good balance between smooth running, dimensional stability and ease of fitting onto standard shafts.
