The 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 60x85x17 mm, absorbs axial forces in one direction in mechanical and plant engineering.
The 51112 axial deep-groove ball bearing is a separable axial bearing from SKF Wälzlager, designed to guide shafts in the axial direction. The assembly consists of a shaft ring with a 60 mm bore, a housing ring with an 85 mm outer diameter and a guided ball ring with a sheet steel cage. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, the design withstands operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 °C. With standard tolerances in accordance with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, this rolling bearing meets standard industrial requirements.
This single-acting bearing supports rotating shafts against axial loads acting on the system exclusively from a defined direction. Typical applications are found in industrial settings involving purely longitudinal forces parallel to the axis of rotation, where axial forces predominate. As axial deep-groove ball bearings must not absorb any significant radial forces, the design of this component usually combines it with separate radial bearings in the shaft assembly. In this way, radial guidance and axial load-bearing are structurally separated from one another.
As this design is not angularly adjustable and does not require a spherical washer, it absolutely requires the contact surfaces on the shaft and housing to be machined to be at right angles and flat. Even minor misalignments or skewing lead to uneven stresses on the raceways. Pay close attention to the orientation during installation: the shaft disc with the smaller internal diameter sits firmly on the shaft, whilst the housing disc is guided in the housing with radial clearance. The open design also requires lubrication appropriate to the application and external housing seals to prevent the ingress of dirt.
The bearing has a bore of 60 mm, an outside diameter of 85 mm and a height or width of 17 mm. These dimensions comply with the specifications for standardised single-direction axial bearings in this series. Before fitting, check the mating diameters of the shaft and the housing bore to ensure a precise fit.
This design accommodates purely axial forces acting on the assembly from a single direction. This type of bearing is not suitable for radial forces. If combined loads occur during operation, it is essential to dissipate the radial load via an additional radial bearing in order to prevent damage to the raceways and balls.
No, this model is not angle-adjustable and is fitted without a spherical washer. The contact surfaces in the housing and on the shaft must be machined so that they are exactly perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Otherwise, misalignment will result in localised edge loads on the balls, which may prematurely reduce the service life of the components.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 °C. The standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. Select the lubricant used – whether grease or oil – to suit the actual ambient temperatures and rotational speeds encountered.
The assembly comprises the single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearing as a separable unit consisting of a shaft washer, a housing washer and the ball set with a sheet steel cage situated between them. Washers are not included in the scope of supply. Thanks to the separable design, the discs and the ball cage can be positioned on the shaft one after the other during assembly.
P0, also known as standard tolerance or PN, defines the standard accuracy for dimensional and running characteristics in industrial rolling bearings. ABEC 1 is the comparable American equivalent. This tolerance class fully meets the usual precision requirements in general mechanical engineering and gearbox construction.
