The 51108 axial deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager, with dimensions of 40x60x13 mm, accommodates high single-sided axial forces in mechanical engineering.
The 51108 axial deep-groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing comprising a shaft ring, a housing ring and the ball and cage assembly housed between them. Its primary function is to absorb and guide axial forces in a defined direction. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6) and fitted with a sheet steel cage, this version covers an operating temperature range from –30 to +150 degrees. Manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, these dimensionally accurate components are suitable for industrial bearing applications.
Design engineers specifically use this bearing in assemblies where purely axial compressive forces occur. As the direction of action is designed to be single-sided, the bearing unit fixes a shaft axially in one direction. The range of applications includes bearing arrangements with unilateral axial loads, where no radial forces act on the axial bearing. The design cannot accommodate radial forces, which is why the component should always be supplemented by separate radial roller bearings in the bearing arrangement.
This roller bearing is not designed to be angularly adjustable and does not include a shim. The mounting surfaces in the housing and on the shaft must be machined to be flat and perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Otherwise, misalignment or tilting between the shaft and the housing will result in uneven load distribution across the rolling elements. Precise alignment of the mating parts ensures that the washers make full contact and that smooth running is maintained.
A single-direction axial bearing, comprising a shaft ring, a housing ring and a ball-cage assembly. It absorbs axial forces in one direction and provides axial support for the shaft. By its very design, the bearing cannot transmit radial forces.
The bore is 40 mm, the external diameter is 60 mm and the overall width is 13 mm. These standardised key dimensions ensure a precise fit when installed in the appropriate shaft seats and matching housing bores.
This roller bearing is designed to act on one side only. It supports axial forces from one direction only. If alternating axial forces occur, the bearing arrangement requires a second axial bearing or a double-acting design to support the shaft on both sides.
No, this model is not angle-adjustable and does not include spherical washers. It does not compensate for misalignment or shaft deflection. The contact surfaces on the housing and shaft must therefore be machined to be flat and at right angles to the bearing axis.
The bearing covers an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. This range is made possible by the standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the sheet steel cage. When designing the bearing, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is also suitable for these temperatures.
The product is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This corresponds to the industrial standard for dimensional and running accuracy. It ensures a defined fit when mounted on shafts and in housings.
