The SKF 51210 axial deep groove ball bearing, measuring 50x78x22 mm, accommodates unidirectional axial forces in mechanical and plant engineering.
The SKF 51210 axial deep groove ball bearing is designed to guide shafts subjected to unidirectional axial loads. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), this assembly consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring and, between them, a ball ring with a sheet steel cage. With a bore of 50 mm, an outside diameter of 78 mm and a height of 22 mm, this rolling bearing supports axial forces in a defined direction. The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 51210 axial deep-groove ball bearing where purely axial loads occur in one direction and radial forces are absorbed by separate radial bearings. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), this component is suitable for applications in general mechanical engineering involving axially loaded bearings. As this thrust bearing transmits axial forces exclusively, no radial load must be applied. The design supports the shaft axially on one side.
When designing the bearing mounting, please note that the 51210 axial deep-groove ball bearing is not angularly adjustable. The contact surfaces on the shaft and housing must be exactly at right angles to and parallel with the axis to avoid damaging edge loads. As this product is designed without additional shims, misalignments cannot be automatically compensated for. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements across the entire temperature range from -30 to +150 degrees and requires appropriate lubrication.
The dimensions are 50 mm bore diameter (internal), 78 mm external diameter and 22 mm overall width or height. These standardised dimensions allow for a precise fit when mounted on suitable shafts and in corresponding housing bores.
The assembly is designed to act on one side only and absorbs axial forces acting on the shaft collar from a single direction. This roller bearing is not designed for combined radial loads or axial forces acting on both sides.
Both the housing flange and the shaft flange have flat contact surfaces. Owing to their design, the bearings cannot compensate for any misalignment of the shaft resulting from manufacturing or assembly. The connecting structure in the housing and on the shaft must therefore be machined at right angles to the axis of rotation.
The roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the sheet steel cage are designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. To ensure reliable operation, the chosen lubricant – such as grease or oil – must be approved for this temperature range.
In this design, a sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along their raceways. The cage maintains a fixed distance between the rolling elements, prevents them from coming into contact with one another and contributes to smooth running at normal to high speeds.
The scope of supply includes the single-acting axial deep-groove ball bearing itself, comprising a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball-cage assembly. Washers for compensating for angular misalignment are not included in this scope of supply and are not required if the housing is mounted on a flat surface.
