The FAG 53224 single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 120 × 170 × 40.8 mm, accommodates high axial forces and can be fitted with angular adjustment.
The FAG 53224 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to accommodate unidirectional axial forces in mechanical and plant engineering. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and fitted with a sheet steel cage, this rolling bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees. With a bore of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a height of 40.8 mm, this version complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. It guides shafts in the axial direction and, as a single bearing, does not include a washer.
Users employ the 53224 axial deep-groove ball bearing to transfer unidirectional axial loads into the housing. As the design is intended for pure axial forces, it is typically used in combination with separate radial bearings. Typical applications include vertical shaft lines or industrial gearbox assemblies. The spherical housing surface, in conjunction with a suitable washer, serves to compensate for static misalignment.
The scope of supply includes the axial deep-groove ball bearing without a washer. To ensure a flat housing mounting surface, a corresponding concave spherical mating surface is required in the housing, or a spherical washer must be fitted to utilise the angular adjustability. Before installation, in addition to the mounting dimensions of 120 mm on the shaft and 170 mm on the housing, the direction of action must also be taken into account. Single-acting axial bearings support loads in one direction only.
The single-direction axial bearing has a bore of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a height of 40.8 mm. It is made of 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and features a sheet steel cage. The spherical housing washer, when used in conjunction with a washer, allows for the compensation of static misalignment.
The roller bearing absorbs only axial forces acting on the shaft flange in one direction. This design cannot accommodate radial loads, as the raceways are designed purely for axial guidance. In shaft mountings, it is therefore typically supplemented by separate radial bearings, which provide radial support.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees. The components made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage are designed for these operating conditions. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil is suitable for the respective operating temperature of the bearing location.
P0, or ABEC 1, denotes the standard tolerance class for dimensional and running accuracy in industrial roller bearings. This classification specifies the permissible deviations for the bore, outer diameter and radial run-out. It ensures that the bearing can be fitted into standard mechanical engineering assemblies without the need for special adaptations.
The scope of the item comprises the axial deep-groove ball bearing only, without a washer. Some designs already feature a suitable spherical housing shape or make use of existing components. If a flat mounting surface is available and angular misalignment needs to be compensated for, a suitable shim must be fitted separately.
The ability to adjust the angle is due to the spherical shape of the housing washer. If the bearing is fitted with a suitable spherical washer, the components can shift relative to one another. This compensates for misalignment errors that may arise due to static misalignment between the housing and the shaft.
