Axial Deep Groove Ball B. FAG 51226

The FAG 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 130 × 190 × 45 mm, reliably supports high axial forces from one direction.

The 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing absorbs axial loads in one direction and supports the shaft axially against the housing. The FAG rolling bearing consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring and the ball and cage seat situated between them. As it is manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, the component has proven its worth in mechanical and plant engineering at normal operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The separate components allow for a systematic assembly of the discs one after the other onto the shaft.

What operating conditions does the 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing require?

This bearing is primarily designed to accommodate single-sided axial loads in designs with vertical or horizontal shaft alignment. Typical applications include fixtures and axially loaded bearing arrangements where purely longitudinal forces occur without significant radial components. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, the bearing arrangement requires precise alignment of the connecting parts. The contact surfaces in the housing and on the shaft must be perpendicular to the axis of rotation to prevent uneven loading of the rolling elements.

What is important in the single-acting design?

In the design, the precise positioning of the shaft and housing washers plays a central role. The shaft washer has a 130 mm bore with a tight fit, whilst the housing washer, with an outer diameter of 190 mm, remains radially free. An integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely with minimal friction. The bearing is manufactured to standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1 and is fitted without additional shims. A sufficient minimum axial load during operation helps to ensure that the balls roll without any sliding motion.

What are the dimensions of the 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing?

This version has an internal diameter of 130 mm at the shaft flange, an external diameter of 190 mm at the housing flange and a total width of 45 mm. These defined key dimensions, based on standardised series, allow for a precise fit within the specified installation spaces of industrial gearboxes and machine mountings.

What loads can the 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing support?

As a single-acting axial bearing, this component absorbs only axial forces acting on the shaft flange from a single direction. The bearing must not be subjected to radial loads. If combined loads occur in the system, a separate radial bearing must be provided to guide the shaft in the transverse direction.

Which type of steel mesh cage is used in the warehouse?

FAG fits this model with a sturdy sheet steel cage. The cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and ensures they are guided safely along the raceways. Sheet steel cages are suitable for standard speeds and can easily withstand the lubricants used within the normal temperature range.

Can the 51226 axial deep-groove ball bearing compensate for misalignment?

No, the 51226 series has flat contact surfaces on the housing disc and is not angle-adjustable. Even slight misalignments between the shaft and the housing wall lead to localised load peaks on the raceways. Parallel mounting surfaces and right-angled machining of the contact points are therefore essential for trouble-free operation.

What is the permissible temperature range for this bearing?

The dimensional stability of the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage allows for an operating range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The actual operating limit is always determined by the temperature resistance of the selected grease or lubricating oil, as lubricants age or their lubricating properties change under thermal stress.

What does tolerance class P0 mean for this axial bearing?

The designation P0, also known as standard tolerance (PN) or ABEC 1, defines the accuracy in terms of dimensional, form and running tolerances. This accuracy class is intended for conventional mechanical engineering applications where standard manufacturing tolerances on the shaft and housing are sufficient.
