Axial Deep Groove Ball B. SKF 51320

The SKF 51320 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to accommodate single-direction axial loads and has dimensions of 100 × 170 × 55 mm.

The 51320 axial deep groove ball bearing is designed as a single-acting rolling bearing for pure axial loads in one direction. With a bore of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a height of 55 mm, the component provides axial support for corresponding shaft axes. SKF manufactures the rings and rolling elements from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly between the two raceways.

What is the 51320 axial deep-groove ball bearing suitable for in operation?

This rolling bearing is designed to accommodate high axial forces parallel to the axis of rotation. It is used in industrial bearing arrangements where forces are applied predominantly from one side and where no shaft deflection or misalignment occurs. As this design is intended for purely axial loading, it does not absorb any radial forces. To ensure complete shaft guidance, the bearing arrangement is therefore combined with separate radial bearings.

What installation requirements does the rigid 51320 design have?

This design is not angle-adjustable and is supplied without a shim. Both the shaft shoulder and the housing contact surface must be machined to be flat and perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Misalignment or skewing will result in uneven load distribution across the balls. The specified operating temperature range is between –30 and +150 degrees. As the bearing is of open design, an external lubricant supply and housing-side sealing elements must be provided.

What loads can the 51320 axial deep-groove ball bearing withstand?

This thrust bearing is designed to accommodate only axial forces acting on the shaft from a single direction. This design is not suitable for supporting radial loads. In technical applications, designers therefore typically combine this rolling bearing with separate radial bearings in order to support both directions of force independently of one another.

What are the dimensions of bearing 51320?

The bore for accommodating the shaft is 100 mm. The external diameter is 170 mm and the axial height is 55 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for precise adaptation to appropriately sized shafts and housing bores.

Can the 51320 axial deep-groove ball bearing compensate for misalignment?

No, this version is not angle-adjustable. The component has a flat housing washer and is fitted without a spherical washer. The contact surfaces of the shaft and housing must be machined to be flat and perpendicular to the axis of rotation, as angular misalignment increases edge loading and accelerates wear.

What is the permissible temperature range for this bearing?

The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. The standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage ensure high dimensional stability within this temperature range. For the actual application, the temperature resistance of the selected grease or oil must also be taken into account.

What materials is the axial bearing made of?

Both the shaft and housing washers and the balls are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material is characterised by its strength and resistance to mechanical wear. The ball retainer is made from pressed sheet steel, combining low weight with structural stability.

What does the tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 mean?

This designation refers to the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings. The dimensional and running error tolerances fall within the standard limits. For standard industrial applications, this accuracy class ensures a reliable fit on the shaft and in the housing.
