FAG axial deep-groove ball bearing 51409: A single-direction rolling bearing made from 100Cr6 steel with a 45 mm bore, designed for purely axial forces in mechanical engineering.
The FAG 51409 axial deep groove ball bearing absorbs axial forces from one direction. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the bearing unit accommodates components with the following main dimensions: 45 mm bore, 100 mm outer diameter and 39 mm width. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the circular raceway. The open axial bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
The rolling bearing is used when axial thrust forces along the shaft axis need to be absorbed in one direction. As the design is single-acting, it supports the shaft exclusively in an axial direction. The component must not absorb purely radial forces. In industrial applications, the bearing therefore operates in combination with separately arranged radial bearings to absorb combined loads independently of one another.
This version is not angularly adjustable and comprises the axial deep-groove ball bearing without a washer. Parallel and perpendicular contact surfaces on the housing and the shaft are essential for operation in order to prevent misalignment. The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 for dimensional accuracy. The integrated sheet steel cage holds the rolling elements in position even at operating temperatures of up to +150 degrees.
The main dimensions of the bearing are 45 mm internal diameter (bore), 100 mm external diameter and a height of 39 mm. These dimensions must be taken into account precisely when designing the housing and shaft fits.
The bearing is designed to accommodate only axial loads acting on the shaft collar from a single direction. This design is not intended for transverse forces or radial loads. If radial forces occur in the system, these must be supported by separate radial bearings on the shaft.
No, the 51409 model is not angle-adjustable and has a flat housing disc without a shim. It is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. Precise alignment of the connecting structure is therefore essential to prevent uneven edge pressures and premature wear of the rolling elements.
Both the discs and the rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel of the 100Cr6 grade. This material offers high fatigue strength and dimensional stability under load. A sheet steel cage is used to guide the rolling elements.
The roller bearing is designed for use at ambient temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. Within this temperature range, the 100Cr6 steel and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical strength. When selecting the design, always ensure that the chosen lubricant is approved for the same thermal conditions.
The designation ‘tolerance class P0/PN’ or ‘ABEC 1’ indicates the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. It defines a tried-and-tested level of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy that is sufficient for the vast majority of common applications in general mechanical and plant engineering.
