The SKF 51207 axial deep groove ball bearing accommodates unilateral axial loads and guides shafts with a 35 mm bore and an outer diameter of 62 mm.
The 51207 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to support rotating machine components subjected to pure axial forces from a single direction. This SKF rolling bearing is made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) and has a 35 mm bore, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a height of 18 mm. By design, this type of bearing cannot accommodate radial forces. A guided sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements on the specified raceway and ensures smooth running under load.
This rolling bearing is used in applications where designs require defined axial forces in one direction. Typical applications include vertical or horizontal mounting points in general mechanical engineering subject to unilateral thrust loads. As this is a single-direction design, the bearing provides axial support to the shaft on one side. Such bearings are not designed for alternating load directions. Additional radial support via separate radial bearings is required in these systems.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1), which complies with the standards for regular industrial applications. As this version is not angle-adjustable and is supplied without a spherical washer, the housing and shaft contact surfaces must be perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Otherwise, misalignment will lead to localised edge loads on the raceways. The permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees allows for use in demanding thermal environments, provided the correct lubricant is used.
The bearing has an internal diameter (bore) of 35 mm, an external diameter of 62 mm and a total width or overall height of 18 mm. These dimensions determine the exact installation space required on the shaft and within the housing.
This design accommodates only axial loads acting on the shaft collar from a single direction. The axial bearing is unsuitable for radial forces; radial forces must therefore be absorbed by separate rolling bearings.
The components, made from hardened roller bearing steel (100Cr6), are designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The actual operating limit depends largely on the temperature limits of the lubricant used.
Bearing 51207 is not angle-adjustable and does not compensate for manufacturing-related misalignments or tilting of the contact surfaces. The contact surfaces on the shaft and housing must be perpendicular to the shaft axis in order to prevent uneven load distribution.
In this design, a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceway. The cage separates the rolling elements, reduces friction and holds the balls together as a continuous ring when the unit is removed.
P0, also known as standard tolerance or ABEC 1, defines the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for standardised industrial applications. It provides the fitting accuracy customary in general mechanical engineering whilst ensuring cost-effective production.
