The SKF 7309 BEGAP angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 45 × 100 × 25 mm and a 40-degree contact angle, can accommodate high radial and unilateral axial loads.
This single-row 7309 BEGAP angular contact ball bearing is manufactured by SKF and is made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. Thanks to its angular raceways, the bearing can handle radial and axial loads simultaneously. As an open bearing without integrated sealing rings, it is suitable for installations where an external lubrication system supplies the component. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and has a standard radial clearance.
Design engineers prefer to use this bearing design in shaft mountings where axial forces act in one direction. The pronounced contact angle of 40 degrees gives the bearing arrangement a high axial load-carrying capacity. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to combined loads in general mechanical engineering. As this angular contact ball bearing acts on one side only, in practice it is usually paired with a second bearing or fitted directly as a set.
The suffix identifies universally compatible bearings which, when mounted in an O or X arrangement, have a defined, slight preload. This eliminates the need for manual adjustment of shims in the bearing seat. The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and keeps the weight low. The component covers an operating range from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius, which is designed for standard industrial environments.
With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm, this version conforms to the standard dimensions of the 7309 series. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. These dimensions allow for direct installation into standardised housing bores.
The contact angle describes the line along which the contact forces between the ball and the raceway are transmitted. An angle of 40 degrees shifts the force transmission more towards the shaft axis. As a result, the bearing can accommodate high axial loads in one direction.
Polyamide cages provide flexible guidance for the rolling elements and reduce friction and operating noise. The material ensures smooth running whilst being lightweight. This design is intended for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius.
Open roller bearings do not have any sealing lips or cover plates that come into contact with the bearing. This design allows for the unimpeded circulation of external lubricating oil or grease within the bearing housing. Protection against contamination and moisture must be provided by the design of the surrounding machine housing.
Universally matched bearings can be fitted side by side without the need for adjustment. When two of these angular contact ball bearings are combined in a tandem, O or X arrangement, a slight preload is automatically established. This simplifies installation and results in a backlash-free bearing arrangement with high rigidity.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1), the component meets the usual precision requirements of mechanical engineering regarding concentricity, dimensional accuracy and axial run-out of the bearing rings.
