The SKF 7318 BECBP angular contact ball bearing, with a 90 mm bore and a 40-degree contact angle, provides precise guidance for combined radial and axial loads.
The 7318 BECBP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the SKF Explorer series, designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to its 40-degree contact angle, this open bearing accommodates radial forces as well as unidirectional axial forces. It is manufactured from hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel, ensuring high dimensional stability. With key dimensions of 90 mm inner diameter, 190 mm outer diameter and 43 mm width, this unit is suitable for shaft mountings in mechanical engineering.
This angular contact ball bearing accommodates simultaneously occurring radial loads and axial forces in one direction. As single-row angular contact ball bearings can only accommodate axial forces from one side, they are often installed as a pair of bearings mounted back-to-back. When mounted in pairs in an O or X arrangement, this bearing design already has a low axial clearance, which supports precise shaft guidance and simplifies alignment within the overall system.
The 40-degree contact angle gives the rolling bearing a high axial load-carrying capacity compared to designs with a smaller contact angle. The polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low vibration within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to P5, the bearing features tight tolerances. As this is an open design without an integrated seal, external sealing of the bearing housing is required.
With an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm, this model has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or circumferential groove. These dimensions allow for a precise fit in corresponding housing bores and on cylindrical shaft seats.
The letter sequence describes the design features of the version: B stands for the 40-degree pressure angle, E for the optimised internal geometry and CB for the universal version with low axial clearance in O and X configurations. The designation ‘P’ refers to the polyamide cage.
The contact angle describes the line of force transmission between the raceways and the rolling elements relative to the radial plane. A nominal contact angle of 40 degrees enables single-row bearings to accommodate high axial loads. This is beneficial in applications where significant axial forces in one direction, together with radial forces, must be supported by the shaft bearing arrangement.
Without factory-fitted sealing or cover washers, the open bearing can be operated flexibly with grease or lubricating oil. When designing the bearing housing, a suitable external seal must be provided to prevent lubricant loss and to protect the interior of the bearing from the ingress of dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. These limits are determined by the thermal properties of the polyamide cage and the stability of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. For applications outside this range, alternative cage materials and suitable lubricants are required.
The specification combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P6 with improved running accuracy in accordance with P5. The bearing therefore features tighter tolerance ranges for the ring dimensions as well as reduced runout errors. This ensures precise shaft guidance and smooth running characteristics during operation.
