The SKF 7308 BECBJ single-row angular contact ball bearing with a 40 mm bore accommodates combined radial and axial loads at a contact angle of 40 degrees.
The 7308 BECBJ angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with main dimensions of 40 mm inner diameter, 90 mm outer diameter and 23 mm width. The manufacturer, SKF, produces this version with a sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance. Thanks to its open design, with no flange or groove on the outer ring, the bearing can be lubricated via the housing structure. The component is designed for a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees.
The 7308 BECBJ angular contact ball bearing simultaneously withstands radial loads and unidirectional axial forces. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, the bearing effectively transfers axial loads into the raceways. Typical applications include shaft mountings subject to combined loads. Its classification in tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 ensures smooth running in industrial applications.
The designation refers to key design features: the letter B stands for the 40-degree contact angle, whilst the design is intended for installation in pairs. When two bearings are mounted in an O or X arrangement, a defined, low axial clearance is created as a result of the design. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. As this is an open bearing, users select the lubricant and external seal to suit the specific installation environment.
This bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. With its outer ring featuring neither a groove nor a flange, the bearing unit fits precisely into standardised cylindrical housing bores.
The nominal pressure angle determines the angle at which forces are transmitted from one raceway to the other. An angle of 40 degrees ensures a high axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. As a result, the component reliably withstands combined radial and single-sided axial loads in particular.
When mounted in an O or X configuration, the bearing pair is factory-set to provide a small amount of axial clearance. This precise adjustment allows for installation in pairs without the need for time-consuming adjustment using spacer discs. The arrangement is designed to provide stable support against alternating axial forces and tilting moments.
The open design, which does not feature integrated sealing washers, allows for use in oil-lubricated recirculating systems or grease-lubricated housings with separate seals. Lubricants can circulate freely and dissipate heat. To protect against dirt and moisture, the housing design must be fitted with a suitable external seal.
The bearing is designed for a temperature range between -20 and +150 degrees. The rings and rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. The sheet-steel cage also withstands these thermal conditions, provided that the selected lubricant is approved for the respective operating temperature of the bearing location.
The bearing complies with the standard tolerance P0 or normal tolerance (PN), which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in international terms. This tolerance class defines the dimensional and running accuracy required for common industrial applications. When designing the shaft and housing, appropriately matched fits must be provided.
