The SKF 7212 BEP single-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 60x110x22 mm, can accommodate high unilateral axial loads as well as radial forces.
The 7212 BEP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row radial rolling bearing from SKF made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to the specific arrangement of the raceways, this design is particularly suitable for combined loads with a high axial component in one direction. With a bore diameter of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm, this open bearing is used in a wide variety of industrial drive trains. The design features standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1).
This rolling bearing is typically used where rotating shafts must withstand defined one-sided axial forces in addition to radial forces. Thanks to the 40-degree contact angle, the design effectively supports axial loads. Typical applications include shaft mountings with combined loads where defined axial guidance is required. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, you should integrate the component directly into the machine’s lubrication system.
The suffix BEP denotes key design features of this bearing. The letter B stands for the nominal contact angle of 40 degrees, which facilitates the absorption of high axial forces in one direction. The suffix P denotes the lightweight polyamide cage, which ensures quiet ball rotation. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Care must be taken to ensure a suitable external housing seal is fitted.
The bearing has a bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised dimensions allow for a precise fit on corresponding shaft seats and in housing units with standard tolerances.
The contact angle describes the angle at which the line connecting the points of contact between the ball and the raceways is inclined to the radial plane. A contact angle of 40 degrees enables the transmission of particularly high axial forces in one direction. The bearing simultaneously accommodates radial loads; however, it must always be loaded axially in the direction of the force or supported against a second bearing.
As the unit is supplied ex works without sealing washers, the roller bearing is lubricated directly by the surrounding machinery. Depending on the design requirements, either grease or gear oil may be used for this purpose. The application’s housing must therefore be fitted with external seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt particles.
The polyamide cage is suitable for use at temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This material reduces the inertia of the cage and promotes smooth running. In applications close to the upper temperature limit, the lubricant should remain thermally stable to ensure that the cage is always sufficiently lubricated and operates with low friction.
The model is manufactured to standard dimensional and running accuracy in tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the US standard ABEC 1. The bearing clearance corresponds to the standard radial bearing clearance for this size. The actual operating clearance is established once the bearing is fitted, as soon as the shaft is pressed in and the bearing is preloaded or adjusted axially within the assembly.
Due to its design, a single-row angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in a single axial direction. For alternating or bidirectional axial forces, a second bearing is usually mounted in a mirror-image configuration opposite the first, for example in an O or X arrangement. Alternatively, double-row bearings or four-point bearings are used for such applications.
