The SKF 3305 ATN9/C3 double-row angular contact ball bearing measures 25 × 62 × 25.4 mm and accommodates radial and axial loads on both sides at a 30-degree contact angle.
The SKF 3305 ATN9/C3 double-row angular contact ball bearing is designed for demanding shaft support applications where radial and axial forces act simultaneously on both sides. Thanks to the 30-degree contact angle, the bearing efficiently transfers angular forces between the inner and outer rings. Manufactured from standard bearing steel 100Cr6, this open bearing is characterised by high dimensional stability. With a tolerance class of P6 (ABEC 3), this design is suitable for applications requiring precise shaft guidance and smooth concentricity.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 3305 ATN9/C3 angular contact ball bearing in bearing arrangements subject to combined radial and axial loads in both directions. Thanks to its double-row design, the unit effectively supports axial forces and tilting moments where axial installation space is limited. Typical applications include high-precision bearing locations and rotating shafts that require play-free or precisely guided positioning. The open bearing design allows for flexible lubricant selection via the surrounding machine housing.
The designation ATN9 indicates a polyamide cage, which ensures smooth, low-noise operation and covers a temperature range from –20 to +120 degrees. The designation C3 denotes a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional internal clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion between the shaft and housing or tight-fitting seats. As this is an open design, installation requires an external housing seal.
This double-row roller bearing has an inside diameter of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 62 mm and a width of 25.4 mm. With this geometry, the component is suitable as a compact unit for shafts with a 25 mm bore, with the outer ring being cylindrical and without a flange or groove.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This greater radial clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. As a result, the bearing remains smooth-running even under thermal stress.
The polyamide cage, designated ATN9, guides the two rows of balls with low friction and vibration damping. Compared with metal cages, the material is characterised by its low weight and quiet operation. The permissible temperature range for this type of cage is from -20 to +120 degrees.
The contact angle of 30 degrees determines the line of action for the force transmission between the inner and outer rings. Thanks to this geometry, the double-row angular contact ball bearing can accommodate high axial forces on both sides, together with radial forces. The angular orientation of the raceways also provides effective mechanical support against any tilting moments that may occur.
Classification as tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3 indicates a higher level of manufacturing precision compared with standard tolerances. Both the dimensional accuracy of the bore and the outer diameter, as well as the concentricity, have tighter tolerance ranges. This promotes smooth running during demanding guidance applications.
As this version does not have any integrated sealing or cover washers, lubrication is provided via the lubrication circuit or grease chamber of the surrounding structure. Operators can select the lubricant as required. During operation, the bearing location requires an external seal on the bearing housing to protect against dirt and moisture.
