The FAG 3219 -M-C3 angular contact ball bearing, measuring 95 × 170 × 55.6 mm, with a brass cage and C3 clearance, offers a robust solution for combined radial and axial loads.
The FAG 3219 -M-C3 double-row angular contact ball bearing accommodates high radial forces as well as axial forces acting in both directions within a compact installation space. Due to its double-row design, the construction corresponds to two paired single bearings in an O-arrangement, yet requires less axial installation width. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this open rolling bearing is suitable for demanding industrial drives. The combination of a brass cage and a slightly increased C3 bearing clearance ensures stable operation in thermally stressed assemblies.
This double-row ball bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements where combined radial and axial loads occur. Thanks to its robust brass cage, the unit is suitable for mechanically stressed applications involving vibrations. The open design allows for direct lubrication via the surrounding oil bath or a lubricant supply provided by the customer. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius, enabling use at elevated operating temperatures.
The suffix ‘M’ denotes a solid brass cage, which, compared to standard sheet metal cages, offers precise rolling element guidance and high mechanical strength. The additional designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance. This compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft and housing during operation and prevents internal stresses. As the bearing, with a 95 mm bore, 170 mm outer diameter and 55.6 mm width, is of an open design, protection against contamination must be provided by the housing design.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 95 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width across flats of 55.6 mm. The outer ring is manufactured as a standard version without a flange or groove. These dimensions define the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways helps to prevent seizing due to operational heating or tight fits. This ensures that the bearing continues to operate smoothly even under thermal stress.
Open angular contact ball bearings are supplied by the manufacturer without either cover plates or sealing plates. They are suitable for applications where external seals protect the housing and lubricating oil is allowed to circulate freely around the bearing. This design also allows for the selection of a specific lubricant and facilitates easy relubrication whilst the bearing is installed.
The brass cage, designated by the letter M, guides the balls in both rows precisely along their paths. Brass is characterised by high strength, good emergency running properties and vibration damping. In demanding conditions, during rapid acceleration or at elevated operating temperatures, this material offers mechanical stability.
This bearing, manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, is approved for temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the material of the bearing rings and the robust brass cage are designed for this temperature range. In practical use, the lubricant employed also determines the thermal limits.
Double-row angular contact ball bearings functionally combine two single-row bearings arranged opposite each other into a compact unit. Whilst single-row variants can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, the double-row model can handle axial loads in both directions. Furthermore, whilst offering comparable load-carrying capacity, it requires less axial installation space than two individual bearings.
