The SKF 3206 ATN9/C3 double-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 30 × 62 × 23.8 mm, accommodates combined loads and offers increased C3 clearance.
The SKF 3206 ATN9/C3 angular contact ball bearing is an open, double-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel. Thanks to its contact angle of 30 degrees and two rows of balls, this component simultaneously supports radial forces and axial loads in both directions. The design features a bore of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a width of 23.8 mm. With its slightly increased radial clearance (C3), the design is suitable for applications where thermal expansion occurs.
This double-row bearing is used in designs that must accommodate not only radial forces but also alternating or bidirectional axial forces. As angular contact ball bearings transmit loads at an angle to the radial plane, two rows of balls arranged opposite each other provide rigid guidance with minimal axial installation space. Typical applications include shaft mountings in mechanical engineering that require precise guidance under combined loads. The open design requires a clean installation environment and allows for lubrication as required, directly via the surrounding housing system.
The designation ATN9 indicates a polyamide cage, which ensures quiet operation and covers a temperature range from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The C3 classification denotes a radial clearance that is greater than the standard value. This prevents the rolling elements from seizing up when temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings or when tight fits are selected. Furthermore, the tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3 ensures smooth running whilst meeting higher precision requirements.
With a bore of 30 mm, an external diameter of 62 mm and a width of 23.8 mm, this component complies with standardised key dimensions. The outer ring is designed without a flange or groove. These dimensions allow for mounting on cylindrical shaft seats and in corresponding housing bores.
Double-row angular contact ball bearings accommodate radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. Due to the 30-degree contact angle, the two rows of balls support each other. Functionally, this design corresponds to two single-row angular contact ball bearings mounted in pairs; however, it requires less axial space within the assembly.
The designation C3 indicates a radial clearance greater than the standard bearing clearance. This increased clearance compensates for thermal expansion when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Even with tighter fits, the C3 bearing clearance helps to prevent undesirable stresses in the bearing.
ATN9 refers to a polyamide cage that combines a low component weight with flexible rolling element guidance. This design is rated for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The material dampens vibrations and is suitable for bearings subject to dynamic speed requirements.
As an open version, this component does not feature any factory-fitted sealing washers. Lubrication with oil or grease is provided directly via the surrounding housing structure. An external housing seal must be fitted to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the raceways.
Tolerance class P6, comparable to ABEC 3, denotes improved dimensional and running accuracy compared with standard tolerance. Rolling bearings in this class exhibit lower concentricity deviations. They are suitable for precisely guided shafts where exact positioning and smooth running are required.
