The SKF 7201 BEP single-row angular contact ball bearing combines a 12 mm bore with a 40-degree contact angle to accommodate radial and unilateral axial loads.
The 7201 BEP angular contact ball bearing is an open, single-row radial rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). With compact main dimensions of 12 mm inner diameter and 32 mm outer diameter, and a width of 10 mm, the design is suitable for shaft mountings subject to combined loads. The outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove. Thanks to its manufacture to standard tolerances (P0/PN or ABEC 1), the component can be integrated with a precise fit into standardised housings and assemblies used in drive and machine technology.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing simultaneously accommodates radial loads and axial forces in one direction. Thanks to the asymmetrical shoulder design of the raceways, the design effectively supports axial guiding and retaining forces. A primary area of application is shaft arrangements subject to combined loads in a defined preferred direction. As this is an open bearing, it is incorporated into designs featuring external housing seals and a targeted lubricant supply.
The nominal contact angle of 40 degrees gives the BEP design a high axial load capacity compared with designs featuring a smaller angle. SKF utilises a polyamide cage, which reduces friction during operation and ensures a low weight. The component is designed for a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. During assembly, the installation direction must be observed, as single-row bearings can only accommodate axial forces in one direction.
The bearing has a cylindrical bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm. The outer ring is flush-mounted without a groove or flange. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting into specified bearing housings and onto corresponding shaft sections.
At SKF, the designation BEP stands for a single-row angular contact ball bearing with a contact angle of 40 degrees (designation letter B) and an optimised internal design (letter E). The letter P refers to the polyamide cage material. This combination of features enables the targeted absorption of unilateral axial forces whilst keeping the weight of the rolling element cage low.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The main limiting factors here are the material of the polyamide cage and the choice of lubricant. For environments within this temperature range, the combination of 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and a plastic cage provides a dimensionally stable basis for continuous machine operation.
Open bearings do not come with integrated seals or cover plates as standard. This design is suitable for applications where the housing seals the bearing location against the ingress of dirt or where a closed lubrication circuit is in place. This eliminates the frictional resistance caused by rubbing sealing lips, which can offer thermal advantages at higher speeds.
The model is manufactured to standard tolerance P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 in the US. This tolerance class fully meets the standard precision requirements in general mechanical engineering, plant engineering and gearbox manufacturing, and offers defined concentricity and fit characteristics for industrial series production applications.
Due to its design, a single single-row angular contact ball bearing transmits axial forces in only one direction, determined by the position of the line of action. If axial forces from varying directions are to be accommodated, two single bearings must be mounted facing each other, for example in an O or X configuration on the shaft.
