The FAG 3322-M angular contact ball bearing, with main dimensions of 110 × 240 × 92.1 mm, can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces on both sides.
The 3322-M angular contact ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing manufactured by FAG Wälzlager. Functionally, its design corresponds to two single-row angular contact ball bearings in an O-arrangement, but requires less installation space in the axial direction. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, this component is characterised by high dimensional stability. Designed as an open bearing, this model can be integrated directly into oil- or grease-lubricated machine housings to perform demanding guidance tasks.
Design engineers primarily use this rolling bearing where high radial forces and alternating axial loads in both directions act simultaneously on the shaft. Thanks to its two rows of balls, the bearing effectively counteracts tilting moments. Typical applications include shaft mountings in general mechanical engineering subject to combined loads. As it complies with tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the bearing fits into standardised housing seats and ensures smooth running under defined operating conditions.
The suffix ‘-M’ indicates a brass cage, which guides the rolling elements precisely. Compared with cages made of sheet steel or plastic, brass is suitable for environments subject to vibrations, accelerations and thermal stresses within a temperature range of –20 to +200 degrees Celsius. The open design without seals requires a clean installation environment and a supply of lubricant via the housing. Normal radial bearing clearance ensures that the rolling elements can roll freely within the specified operating temperature range.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 110 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 240 mm and a width of 92.1 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct installation in appropriately sized bearing housings in accordance with standard specifications.
The designation ‘-M’ indicates the version with a brass cage. This material is characterised by its dimensional stability in contact with rolling elements, as well as its resistance to lubricants and thermal stresses ranging from -20 to +200 degrees Celsius.
Open bearings have neither sealing rings nor cover plates, allowing the lubricant to circulate freely between the rows of balls. They are suitable for applications with external housing seals, where oil circulation lubrication or regular relubrication minimises frictional resistance and reduces the operating temperature.
Due to the angled raceways, a double-row angular contact ball bearing can accommodate not only high radial forces but also axial forces from both directions. The design consists of two angular contact ball bearings arranged opposite each other, enabling the component to reliably absorb axial guidance forces and tilting moments.
Standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as tolerance group CN, describes the manufacturing-related radial clearance when the bearing is new. This clearance is dimensioned such that the bearing runs without undue stress after being pressed onto the shaft and housing, and under normal operating temperatures.
The roller bearing is specified for use within a temperature range of -20 to +200 degrees Celsius. The combination of hardened 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the brass cage helps to maintain the dimensional stability of the components within this temperature range.
