The SKF 33024 single-row tapered roller bearing, measuring 120 × 180 × 48 mm, can accommodate high radial and unilateral axial loads simultaneously.
The 33024 tapered roller bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing for industrial drive and shaft mountings. With a bore of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 48 mm, this component guides shafts with precision. The design enables the combined absorption of radial forces and single-direction axial forces. SKF manufactures this model in the Explorer performance class with robust sheet steel guides for demanding mechanical assemblies in mechanical engineering.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use the 33024 tapered roller bearing in assemblies subject to combined loads and high guiding forces. Thanks to the tapered arrangement of the rollers, the bearing safely transfers heavy loads to the machine housing. Typically, this bearing is fitted in pairs, in conjunction with a second tapered roller bearing, to accommodate axial forces in both directions. The open design allows for the flexible use of industry-specific lubricating oils or greases, depending on operating conditions.
The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the tapered rollers spaced apart and allows operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Manufacture to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 meets the standard precision requirements of mechanical engineering. As the inner ring with roller set and the outer ring can be separated from one another, the design facilitates assembly and disassembly. During installation, care must be taken to ensure the correct adjustment of the bearing clearance relative to the mating bearing.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 48 mm. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore should be checked for dimensional accuracy to ensure a precise fit of the separable bearing rings.
This model is suitable for an operating temperature range of between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the dimensional stabilisation of the rolling elements ensure that the bearing can withstand this thermal stress. When selecting a lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil covers the entire operating temperature range of the application.
The designation P0 or ABEC 1 defines the standard tolerance for dimensional and running accuracy in industrial roller bearings. Components in this class meet the standard requirements for general mechanical engineering. For assemblies with exceptionally high concentricity requirements, separate, tighter special tolerances are available.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated grinding or cover discs. This design allows for free lubrication via the housing or external supply holes. To protect against solid particles and moisture, and to prevent lubricant leakage, external sealing elements should be fitted where necessary.
Tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining in design. The inner ring, together with the sheet steel cage and the tapered rollers, forms a rigid unit, whilst the outer ring remains flangeless and can be freely removed. This feature facilitates the separate installation of the shaft and housing, as well as the subsequent adjustment of the axial bearing clearance.
The SKF Explorer design features optimised internal geometries and refined surfaces on the raceways and rollers. These manufacturing features promote the formation of a lubricating film and reduce friction and wear during operation. This helps ensure that the bearing achieves a long service life even under demanding load conditions.
