SKF 33216 tapered roller bearing: A single-row roller bearing measuring 80 × 140 × 46 mm, designed for high combined radial and axial loads.
The SKF 33216 single-row tapered roller bearing accommodates high radial and axial forces in one direction simultaneously. Thanks to the line contact of the tapered rolling elements, this bearing transmits high loads whilst maintaining high rigidity. Manufactured to the SKF Explorer performance class, this unit – with main dimensions of 80 mm bore, 140 mm outer diameter and 46 mm width – meets demanding requirements in industrial machinery and gearbox applications.
This bearing is primarily used where combined loads and guiding forces act on rotating shafts. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes or drive trains in machinery. As a single tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces from one direction, it is usually fitted in pairs in an X or O configuration opposite a second bearing. This allows the axial guidance of the shaft to be precisely adjusted.
Tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. The inner ring with roller set and the outer ring can be fitted separately, which simplifies handling during workshop assembly. Fitted with a sheet steel cage, the bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, enabling the component to fit precisely into assemblies with standardised fits.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 140 mm and a width of 46 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised metric series for single-row tapered roller bearings and allow for direct replacement in existing machine designs.
Single-row tapered roller bearings can accommodate high radial forces and, at the same time, axial forces acting from one side. The angled tapered rollers ensure that the force is transmitted at an angle. For alternating or axial loads acting from both sides, users fit a second matching bearing in a mirror-image configuration on the shaft.
The bearing is suitable for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees. The integrated sheet steel cage retains its mechanical stability within this range. When selecting the lubricant, you should take the operating temperature of the entire system into account in order to ensure effective lubrication during operation.
The inner ring, including the roller cage, and the outer ring are designed to be separable. This design facilitates step-by-step installation into housings and onto shafts. Fitters adjust the required bearing clearance during assembly by positioning the bearing axially against the second bearing.
This designation refers to the standard tolerance for industrial rolling bearings. It defines the permissible dimensional and concentricity tolerances for the bore, outer diameter and raceways. Components in this class meet the standard requirements of general mechanical engineering and ensure a precise fit.
SKF Explorer bearings are characterised by optimised internal geometries and more finely machined contact surfaces between the rollers and raceways. This promotes the formation of a lubricating film and reduces friction during operation. The bearing is therefore designed to withstand demanding continuous industrial loads.
