The 32232 tapered roller bearing from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 160 × 290 × 84 mm, offers a heavy-duty solution for combined radial and axial forces in mechanical engineering.
The 32232 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in a standard design. This component from FAG Wälzlager has a bore of 160 mm, an outer diameter of 290 mm and a width of 84 mm. Thanks to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, the bearing can simultaneously accommodate high radial forces and single-sided axial forces. This design is typically used in shaft mountings subject to high mechanical loads.
The 32232 tapered roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high combined loads where precise shaft guidance is required. Typical applications are found in general gearbox and heavy machinery construction. As a single-row tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces from one direction, it is usually fitted in a mirror-image configuration with a second bearing. The integrated sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rollers and ensures smooth guidance of the rolling elements.
The built-in sheet steel cage is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. This thermal resistance enables use in demanding industrial environments without premature material fatigue. The complete bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard meets the standard accuracy requirements of mechanical engineering. As the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, the design also simplifies step-by-step installation in tightly dimensioned housings.
The 32232 tapered roller bearing has an inner diameter of 160 mm, an outer diameter of 290 mm and a total width of 84 mm. These dimensions determine the required installation space in the housing and on the shaft. The scope of supply includes a complete bearing, comprising an inner ring with a set of rollers and a matching outer ring.
Due to its tapered raceways, this single-row bearing can accommodate high radial loads and, at the same time, axial forces from a single direction. If axial forces act from alternating directions, fit a second tapered roller bearing in a mirror-image configuration as a counter-bearing. The line contact between the rolling elements ensures high rigidity of the entire shaft bearing arrangement.
The classification as P0, PN or ABEC 1 denotes the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings. It defines the permissible dimensional and geometric deviations of the rings. For the vast majority of industrial drive and machinery applications, this tolerance class offers reliable concentricity whilst maintaining a cost-effective design.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees. This range covers typical ambient conditions as well as normal operating temperatures in industrial plants. When selecting the appropriate lubricating oil or grease, you should ensure that the lubricant is approved for the same temperature range.
The sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers along the inner ring raceway and prevents the rollers from coming into direct contact with one another. Compared with some plastic cages, the sheet steel version can withstand higher temperatures and remains resistant to many lubricant additives. Furthermore, the slim cage design leaves sufficient space for the lubricant.
As the outer ring can be removed separately from the inner ring with its roller cage, fit both bearing components onto the shaft and housing independently of one another. This makes mechanical assembly considerably easier. You can then set the final operating clearance by adjusting the axial alignment against a second roller bearing.
