The SKF 32006 X tapered roller bearing (30x55x17 mm) accommodates combined radial and axial loads and is suitable for demanding industrial applications.
The 32006 X tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing from SKF in the Explorer series, with key dimensions of a 30 mm bore, 55 mm outer diameter and 17 mm width. As a complete tapered roller bearing, it consists of an inner ring with a set of rollers and a corresponding outer ring. Owing to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, the component is specifically suited to shaft mountings where high radial forces and single-sided axial forces occur simultaneously. The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the rollers securely spaced apart.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this bearing type in mounting arrangements with combined load directions. Single-row tapered roller bearings accommodate radial forces as well as axial forces from one direction. In practice, such bearing arrangements are usually installed in pairs in a mirror-image configuration to enable axial guidance of the shaft on both sides. Thanks to the permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees, the bearing operates as intended both in cold environments and under operational heating conditions.
The SKF Explorer design features optimised internal geometries and refined raceway surfaces. This promotes the formation of the lubricating film and reduces friction during operation. The integrated sheet steel cage ensures mechanical strength whilst keeping the weight low. With a tolerance class of P0/PN or ABEC 1, the bearing complies with current standards for general industrial applications. As the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, this simplifies installation and the precise adjustment of the bearing clearance.
The dimensions are 30 mm internal diameter, 55 mm external diameter and a total width of 17 mm. These metric dimensions define the required installation space on the shaft and within the bearing housing. Before replacement, it is advisable to check the fit of the shaft and housing seats against these nominal dimensions.
A single-row tapered roller bearing accommodates high radial loads and axial forces from one direction simultaneously. The tapered rollers distribute the forces via angled raceways. To provide axial guidance in both directions, the bearing must be combined with a second bearing mounted in the opposite direction.
Tapered roller bearings are not designed to be self-retaining, which means that the inner ring, together with the roller cage, and the outer ring can be fitted separately. This ability to dismantle the bearing considerably facilitates sequential installation into housings and onto shafts. Once both bearing rings have been fitted, the axial adjustment of the bearing clearance or preload is carried out directly during final assembly.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. The component can therefore be operated reliably in such thermal environments. When selecting a lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil used is approved for the respective operating temperature of the bearing location.
Tolerance class P0 (also known as PN or ABEC 1) denotes the standardised normal tolerance for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of rolling bearings. It serves as the standard for general mechanical engineering and industrial applications. Components in this accuracy class offer a balanced combination of manufacturing precision and universal suitability for use in standard housings.
The sheet steel cage guides the truncated cone-shaped rollers evenly along the inner ring and prevents direct contact between adjacent rolling elements. This keeps friction to a minimum and controls heat build-up. Cages made from pressed sheet steel are characterised by their stability and resistance to lubricants and moderate impact loads.
