The SKF 32038 X tapered roller bearing (190x290x64 mm) can accommodate high radial and axial loads and is manufactured in the Explorer design.
The SKF 32038 X tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 190 mm, an outer diameter of 290 mm and a width of 64 mm, this complete tapered roller bearing can withstand high radial forces as well as unidirectional axial forces. Thanks to the SKF Explorer design, the unit features optimised surfaces and contact geometries. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers precisely across the entire permissible temperature range from –30 to +120 degrees.
This tapered roller bearing is primarily used where rotating machine components need to be supported whilst subjected to simultaneous transverse and longitudinal forces. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial drives and mechanical shaft mountings. As a single-row bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, users usually fit a second bearing in a mirror-image configuration as a counter-bearing. This creates a rigid bearing arrangement that withstands high continuous loads within the temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The 32038 X tapered roller bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), which is the proven standard tolerance in mechanical engineering. Designers benefit from predictable fits on shafts and in housings. In combination with the lightweight sheet steel cage and the features of the SKF Explorer series, internal friction during operation is minimised. During design, care must be taken to ensure correct axial alignment of the bearing and a suitable lubrication supply for the specific operating conditions.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 190 mm, an external diameter of 290 mm and a total width of 64 mm. These standardised key dimensions simplify the design of the mounting structure and enable precise fitting into housings and onto shafts with corresponding metric bearing seats.
Due to its design, a single-row tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. To guide a shaft axially in both directions and to set the desired preload or a defined operating clearance, fit a second counter-bearing in an X or O arrangement.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the bearing rings and the integrated sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. For actual operation, the thermal operating range of the lubricant used must also be taken into account.
SKF Explorer represents an advanced level of material and manufacturing quality, with precisely matched contact geometry between the tapered rollers and raceways. This improves lubricant film formation under load, reduces friction during operation and helps ensure a long service life under demanding, continuous industrial loads.
P0 or PN and ABEC 1 denote the standard tolerances for dimensional and running accuracy in general mechanical engineering. This specification allows the use of tried-and-tested standard fits in the manufacture of bearing seats on shafts and in housing bores, without the need for tighter special tolerances.
The complete tapered roller bearing can be dismantled. The inner ring forms a single unit with the roller set and the sheet steel cage, whilst the outer ring can be fitted separately. This separate assembly makes installation and removal in heavy mechanical assemblies considerably easier.
