The SKF 32216 tapered roller bearing, a single-row rolling bearing with an 80 mm bore, can withstand high combined radial and axial loads.
With the 32216 tapered roller bearing, you get a complete roller bearing in the SKF Explorer design for demanding bearing applications. The design features a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 140 mm and a width of 35.25 mm. A characteristic feature of this design is its ability to accommodate both radial and single-direction axial loads simultaneously. The component meets tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The 32216 tapered roller bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements where high radial loads are combined with axial forces in one direction. Typical applications include shaft bearings subject to combined loads and single-sided axial guidance. As a single tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial loads in one direction, in practice they are usually fitted in pairs, facing each other. The separable bearing rings simplify the separate installation of the inner and outer rings into the housing and shaft.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rolling elements evenly along the raceways and withstands mechanical loads. The standard tolerance P0/PN (ABEC 1) version offers defined dimensional and concentricity tolerances for common mounting conditions. As the bearing is of open design, the bearing housing requires an external seal to protect against contamination. The lubricant and lubrication intervals are tailored to the operating conditions within the temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The dimensions are 80 mm bore diameter, 140 mm outer diameter and 35.25 mm overall width. These standardised dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in housings and on shafts with an 80 mm bore.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rings and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. To ensure smooth operation, the lubricant must be adapted to the specific temperature and environmental conditions.
Due to their design, single-row tapered roller bearings can only accommodate axial forces from one direction. When subjected to radial loads, an additional internal axial force is generated within the bearing. Only by mounting a second bearing in an X or O configuration can the shaft be guided in both axial directions and the operating clearance adjusted.
P0 and PN denote the standard tolerance for rolling bearings, whilst ABEC 1 corresponds to the equivalent classification under the US standard. This classification defines permissible deviations for dimensional accuracy, radial runout and axial runout in standard industrial applications without increased precision requirements.
As a standard open design, this tapered roller bearing has no integrated cover or sealing discs. The bearing housing therefore requires external sealing elements, such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals on the housing, to prevent lubricant loss and protect the interior of the bearing from foreign matter.
The design as a complete tapered roller bearing comprises both the inner ring, with its mounted set of rollers and sheet steel cage, and the corresponding outer ring. Both components are designed to fit together, but can be handled separately during assembly and pressed onto the shaft and into the housing.
