The 32230 tapered roller bearing from FAG Wälzlager can withstand high radial and axial loads and has an outside diameter of 270 mm and a width of 77 mm.
The 32230 tapered roller bearing is a separable roller bearing designed for demanding bearing applications in mechanical and plant engineering. Thanks to its tapered roller arrangement, this roller bearing simultaneously transmits high radial loads and single-sided axial forces. The robust design ensures rigid shaft guidance and, when correctly specified, guarantees smooth running. With its external dimensions, the bearing is particularly suitable for heavier industrial gearboxes and robust drive shafts.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this roller bearing in heavy-duty gearbox stages and industrial drives. As tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in an O or X arrangement. This mirror-image arrangement enables precise guidance of the shaft in both axial directions. Furthermore, the fact that the inner ring with roller set and the outer ring can be fitted separately simplifies installation in heavy-duty assemblies.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rolling elements precisely along the raceway of the inner ring and prevents direct contact between the rollers. The stamped sheet metal combines high mechanical strength with low weight, which reduces friction within the bearing. In combination with the permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 °C, the cage retains its dimensional stability. It is compatible with all standard industrial lubricating oils and greases without suffering any chemical degradation.
The bearing accommodates high radial forces and axial forces from a single direction simultaneously. Thanks to the contact angle of the tapered rollers, any axial forces applied are reliably supported by the flange of the inner ring. For double-sided axial guidance, fit a second tapered roller bearing as a counter-bearing on the shaft.
This roller bearing has an outer diameter of 270 mm and a total width of 77 mm. These dimensions determine the required installation space within the housing. Always check the mounting dimensions of the surrounding components before installation to ensure that the bearing rings fit without any stress.
The bearing is specified for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 °C. Within this temperature range, the components retain their dimensional stability. When selecting a lubricant, ensure that the grease or oil used is suitable for the specific operating temperature of your system.
Due to their design, tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. The inner ring, together with the roller ring and the cage, forms a single unit, whilst the outer ring can be removed separately. This separate design facilitates both fitting and removal within the machine housing and simplifies routine maintenance work.
The operational bearing clearance is only created during installation, when the bearing is axially aligned against a second bearing. You can adjust the desired clearance or the required preload using shims, shaft nuts or keyways. The correct setting depends on the thermal expansion and the operational requirements of your design.
The sheet steel cage is characterised by high strength combined with low weight. It reliably maintains the correct spacing between the tapered rollers and ensures an unimpeded flow of lubricant to the contact surfaces. Furthermore, sheet steel has proven to be resistant to common mineral and synthetic lubricants used in industrial applications.
