The 32024 -X-XL-P5 tapered roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings offers enhanced positioning accuracy in tolerance class P5, whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 120 × 180 × 38 mm.
This single-row roller bearing accommodates high radial loads as well as single-sided axial loads. The tapered geometry of the raceways ensures that the rollers run with minimal slippage, which counteracts mechanical wear. A sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements. The design is that of a complete tapered roller bearing and is rated for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The bearing is designed for mounting arrangements where high combined loads are combined with stringent requirements for concentricity and dimensional accuracy. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, in practice they are usually mounted in conjunction with a suitably aligned mating bearing in an O or X arrangement. This pairing enables precise adjustment of the axial bearing clearance.
The P5 or ABEC 5 tolerance class is characterised by tighter dimensional, form and running tolerances. Compared with standard tolerances, the bearing exhibits lower radial and axial run-out deviations. This promotes low-vibration operation and facilitates precise alignment of the supported shaft. As the inner ring, including the roller set, and the outer ring are supplied separately, the component can be mounted onto the shaft and housing bore in stages.
The component is a single-row roller bearing with a bore diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 38 mm. It has the higher tolerance class P5 and houses the tapered rollers in a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage.
Thanks to the angled raceways, the design can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces from one direction. To accommodate axial forces from both directions, a second bearing is required as a counter-bearing in an O or X arrangement.
Tolerance class P5, comparable to ABEC 5, specifies tighter manufacturing tolerances than standard bearings in terms of dimensional accuracy, concentricity and axial run-out. This ensures smooth operation in precision shaft-bearing assemblies.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rolling elements and the integrated sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and operational characteristics.
Tapered roller bearings are not of a self-retaining design. The inner ring, together with the cage and set of rollers, forms a single unit, whilst the outer ring has no flange. This allows the inner and outer rings to be pressed in and fitted separately.
