The SKF 33217 tapered roller bearing (85x150x49 mm) accommodates combined radial and axial loads and features a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage.
The 33217 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the SKF Explorer performance class. Designed for demanding industrial applications, its design transmits radial and single-direction axial forces via tapered rollers and raceways. With an inside diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 49 mm, this unit is suitable as a complete tapered roller bearing for shaft support in mechanical engineering and gearbox construction.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 33217 tapered roller bearing for combined loads in machine and gearbox construction. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in an X or O configuration with a second bearing positioned opposite. The modified contact geometry of the Explorer series promotes the formation of a load-bearing lubricating film and reduces load peaks near the edges.
This bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0, which corresponds to tolerance class ABEC 1. The inner ring with roller cage and the flangeless outer ring can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. This simplifies the assembly process in the workshop. You can precisely set the desired bearing clearance during installation by carefully adjusting the bearing against the mating bearing. Careful alignment of the shaft helps to ensure smooth running. The operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees.
The bearing has a bore of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a total width of 49 mm. These dimensions ensure a precise fit when replacing the bearing during routine maintenance or repairs.
As a single-row roller bearing, it simultaneously accommodates high radial forces and axial loads from a single direction. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the unit withstands high impact and continuous loads in industrial powertrains.
The Explorer class features advanced bearings with optimised running surfaces and refined roller profiles. The geometry helps to reduce friction and stress peaks at the flanges, which enhances operational reliability when properly lubricated.
In this design, a sheet steel cage guides the conical rolling elements. This material is fully compatible with standard lubricating greases and mineral oils and is designed for the permissible operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
Tapered roller bearings of this design are not self-retaining. The inner ring forms a single unit with the roller set and the cage, whilst the outer ring can be fitted separately. This ability to dismantle the bearing facilitates the pressing-on and alignment of the components.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also designated PN), which corresponds to the ABEC 1 specification. This class meets the requirements of conventional industrial applications in terms of dimensional and concentricity accuracy as standard.
