The SKF 30203 single-row tapered roller bearing, with dimensions of 17 × 40 × 13.25 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads.
The 30203 tapered roller bearing is used as a single-row rolling bearing in applications where combined radial and axial loads occur. Thanks to the line contact of the tapered rollers, this design can withstand high forces. Manufactured in the SKF Explorer design, the bearing features optimised surfaces on the raceways and roller end faces. The product comprises a complete bearing consisting of an inner ring with a set of rollers and the corresponding outer ring.
The 30203 tapered roller bearing is typically used in industrial drives and shaft mountings subject to combined loads. As a single-row bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, it is usually fitted in pairs in an O or X arrangement. In this way, two roller bearings positioned opposite each other transmit axial forces in both directions. The design retains its dimensional stability at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely and keeps the bearing stable even under demanding operating conditions. Together with tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the unit meets industrial accuracy requirements. A key practical advantage lies in the separable design: the outer ring can be fitted separately from the inner ring with its roller cage. This simplifies installation in the housing and on the shaft, whilst allowing the bearing clearance to be adjusted during assembly.
With an internal diameter of 17 mm (bore), an external diameter of 40 mm and a total width of 13.25 mm, the component complies with standardised key dimensions. This enables it to be fitted as a direct replacement in existing bearing housings and on compatible shafts.
The Explorer version is characterised by optimised internal geometries, refined running surfaces and precisely matched contact profiles on the rollers. These features promote the formation of a uniform lubricating film in the contact area. The bearing is therefore designed to withstand demanding loads whilst generating low friction.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees. This temperature range covers many conditions encountered in mechanical engineering and mechanical drive systems. A lubricant suitable for this temperature range must be selected for operation.
Due to its design, the tapered roller bearing is not self-retaining: the outer ring can be completely separated from the inner ring, including the set of rollers and the sheet steel cage. This feature facilitates assembly and disassembly, as both rings can be fitted separately into the housing or onto the shaft.
The designations P0 and PN denote the standard tolerance for rolling bearings, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. Bearings in this class have defined concentricity and dimensional tolerances. They are suitable for standard industrial applications with standard accuracy requirements.
