The SKF 21311 E spherical roller bearing, with a 55 mm bore, compensates for angular misalignment and accommodates high radial loads in mechanical engineering.
The 21311 E self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing from SKF in the Explorer series. With a bore of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, it is suitable for demanding industrial applications. Two symmetrical rows of rollers on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway enable the compensation of static and dynamic misalignments of the shaft. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rollers evenly. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
This self-aligning roller bearing is particularly suitable for mounting positions subject to high radial loads where misalignment or shaft deflection occurs. Thanks to the spherical raceway in the outer ring, the roller pack self-aligns without generating excessive edge stresses. Typical applications include machine designs where there is a risk of deflection and misalignment. As the bearing is open at both ends, it can be specifically integrated into enclosed housings with external seals.
The 21311 E self-aligning roller bearing features a lubrication groove with lubrication holes on the outer ring. This feature facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed, as the lubricant reaches directly between the rows of rollers. In terms of tolerances, this design combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with increased running accuracy of class P5. This promotes low-vibration operation with even load distribution. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed to provide the appropriate operating clearance during standard operation with typical fit selections.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. These dimensions correspond to standardised key dimensions. Before installation, the available installation space and the fits on the shaft and in the housing must be checked.
Grease or lubricating oil is fed directly into the bearing interior via an annular lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. This ensures that the lubricant is distributed evenly across both rows of rollers. In open bearings of this design, a regular supply of lubricant within the enclosed housing provides lasting protection against friction.
The specification combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) for installation with a tighter running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. This results in lower radial and axial run-out deviations of the rings during operation. This results in smoother running, reduced vibrations and uniform contact geometry under radial load.
This roller bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel and featuring a sheet steel cage, is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. It is therefore also suitable for industrial environments subject to thermal stress. At high operating temperatures, a lubricant with appropriate temperature stability must be selected.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. This standard clearance provides the appropriate radial play for typical shaft and housing fits, as well as moderate operating temperatures. Provided there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, this clearance is intended for common standard applications.
This design is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers. To prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture, as well as the leakage of lubricant, the bearing housing must be sealed externally via the surrounding casing, for example using radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
