The SKF 21314 E spherical roller bearing (70x150x35 mm) compensates for misalignment and is suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications with high radial loads.
The SKF 21314 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding mechanical drives. With a bore of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm, it accommodates heavy radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces. Thanks to the hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the design automatically compensates for shaft misalignment. This open bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, features a robust sheet steel cage and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use the 21314 E self-aligning roller bearing in shaft mountings where deflection or misalignment occurs. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering in high-load drives and where the shaft is subject to elastic deformation. As the outer ring is fitted with a lubrication groove and lubrication holes, the lubricant can be fed directly into the interior of the bearing. The open design requires a clean installation environment and external lubrication via the housing.
In this self-aligning roller bearing, SKF combines PN dimensional accuracy with increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5. The tighter tolerance of the raceway ensures high concentricity, which reduces vibrations during operation. In addition, the outer ring features an integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes. This facilitates regular relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation, as grease or lubricating oil is delivered directly between the rows of rollers. When mounting the bearing, always take the normal radial clearance into account when selecting the fit.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 70 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a total width of 35 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised values for the 21314 series. Before fitting, check the shaft seat and the housing bore to ensure that the rings fit precisely within the unit.
The inner raceway of the outer ring is spherical in shape. As a result, the two rows of rollers, together with the inner ring, align themselves freely within the housing. The system automatically compensates for shaft deflection under load or manufacturing-related misalignment between the bearing positions, without causing harmful edge stresses on the rolling elements.
The P5 running accuracy specification denotes tighter tolerances for radial and axial run-out compared with the standard PN tolerance. This reduces run-out errors and minimises oscillations and vibrations in the shaft supported by the bearing. The dimensional accuracy for the bore and outer ring continues to comply with the standard PN tolerance class, which allows for installation in standard housings.
Lubricant is fed directly into the centre of the bearing via the lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. This ensures that grease or oil is distributed evenly across both rows of rolling elements and the raceways. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the surrounding housing acts as a seal against contamination.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The components made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage can easily withstand thermal stresses within this range. When operating at the upper limit of this range, ensure that you select a lubricant with the appropriate thermal resistance and viscosity for the respective operating temperature.
Bearings in the Explorer performance class are based on optimised internal geometry, improved surface finish of the contact surfaces and controlled material purity. These manufacturing adjustments improve lubricant film formation and reduce internal friction. This contributes to lower heat generation and ensures reliable operation under high loads during machinery operation.
