The SKF 24034 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing, with a 170 mm bore and an outer diameter of 260 mm, accommodates heavy radial loads and misalignment.
The SKF 24034 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications involving high radial loads. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing adjusts its angular position, thereby compensating for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, this open bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design primarily in heavy-duty industrial bearing arrangements and in general mechanical engineering. Wherever elastic deformations of the shaft or housing inaccuracies occur, the angular-compensating geometry counteracts impermissible edge stresses. The dimensions – with a 170 mm bore, 260 mm outer diameter and 90 mm width – offer high load capacity whilst maintaining a compact axial width. The bearing runs smoothly even under varying operating conditions.
The suffix CC denotes the version with a sheet steel cage, which guides the rollers and keeps friction to a minimum during operation. The designation W33 refers to a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, through which lubricant reaches the rolling elements directly. The increased radial clearance C3 compensates for thermal expansion at high operating temperatures. During assembly, dimensional accuracy in accordance with standard tolerance (PN) and the increased running accuracy of class P5 must be taken into account.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 170 mm, an external diameter of 260 mm and a width of 90 mm. These standardised dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely onto suitable shafts and into standardised bearing housings used in heavy machinery manufacturing.
The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove running around the outside of the bearing ring, with radial lubrication holes. These openings allow grease or lubricating oil to be fed directly from the outside into the interior of the rolling bearing, which helps to ensure uniform relubrication of the rolling elements.
The C3 radial bearing clearance is greater than the standard bearing clearance. If a temperature gradient develops between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight fits are selected for the shaft and housing, the radial clearance will decrease. The C3 bearing clearance helps to ensure that the bearing rotates freely even when heated.
The permissible temperature range for the bearing, which is made from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, is from -30 to +200 degrees. As this is an open bearing without contact rubber seals, the actual temperature limit in practice depends largely on the lubricant selected.
The bearing combines PN-class dimensional accuracy with the enhanced running accuracy of class P5. The main dimensions therefore fall within the standard tolerances, whilst the concentricity tolerance is tighter, which promotes smooth, low-vibration operation of the shaft.
In this design, a robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements. The CC design keeps the guide’s own weight low, reduces friction and allows the rollers to self-align freely within the outer ring.
