SKF 23244 CCK/W33 spherical roller bearing with a 220 mm bore, 400 mm outer diameter and tapered bore for demanding industrial applications.
The 23244 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row, open-type heavy-duty roller bearing. SKF manufactures this model in the Explorer series from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The design automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. A robust sheet steel cage reliably guides the rollers and maintains the dimensional stability of the bearing components even under dynamic loads. The open design allows the lubricant to be adjusted as required.
This rolling bearing is designed for applications involving high radial forces, which may also be superimposed by axial forces acting from both sides. Thanks to its angular misalignment capability, the bearing continues to function correctly even in the event of operational misalignments. The W33 version features an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This facilitates targeted relubrication during operation and promotes even distribution of lubricant throughout the entire bearing interior.
The tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 enables flexible and positive-fit mounting. Installation can be carried out directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a suitable mounting or withdrawal sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. The required radial clearance can be precisely adjusted by controlled axial sliding. The combination of standard tolerance PN for the dimensions and increased running accuracy to Class P5 ensures low-vibration operation at operating temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +200 °C.
The main dimensions are 220 mm internal diameter (bore diameter), 400 mm external diameter and 144 mm width. These dimensions correspond to the standardised specifications for the 232 series of self-aligning roller bearings.
The designation W33 indicates a circumferential lubrication groove and radial lubrication holes in the outer ring. This design feature allows the roller sets to be relubricated directly from the outside without having to dismantle the bearing assembly.
SKF’s Explorer class is characterised by carefully selected grades of standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) and optimised raceway geometries. These features promote improved load distribution at the point of contact between the rollers and facilitate low-friction running characteristics during continuous operation.
Manufacturing is carried out to standard tolerance PN for dimensional accuracy and to increased running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. This combination promotes precise running characteristics and smooth operation in demanding shaft-bearing arrangements.
The permissible operating temperature range of the rolling bearing is from -30 °C to +200 °C. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the practical operating limit depends largely on the grease or lubricating oil selected.
Fitting with a tapered bore (1:12 taper) is carried out either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or using a suitable clamping or withdrawal sleeve. The required radial bearing clearance can be precisely adjusted by applying a defined axial press-fit force.
