The SKF 23224 CCK/C3W33 spherical roller bearing, measuring 120 × 215 × 76 mm, compensates for misalignment and withstands heavy radial loads.
The 23224 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. It features a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper ratio and a slightly increased radial clearance (C3). Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing can adjust to shaft deflection with angular adjustment. The guided sheet steel cage and the running accuracy to tolerance class P5 ensure consistent concentricity even under heavy mechanical loads.
This self-aligning roller bearing is used in applications with high radial loads where shaft deflection or misalignment between the shaft and housing occurs. The double-row roller geometry automatically compensates for misalignment during operation. The open design covers a temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees and is intended for bearing installations where lubrication and sealing are provided via the housing.
The tapered inner ring bore allows mounting on tapered shaft journals or, in combination with mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. When pushed onto the tapered seat, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The factory-set increased bearing clearance (C3) compensates for this reduction as well as for thermal expansion during operation. Lubricant can be applied directly between the rows of rollers via the groove with lubrication holes integrated into the outer ring (feature W33).
This double-row roller bearing has a tapered bore with an internal diameter of 120 mm, an external diameter of 215 mm and a width of 76 mm. It automatically compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings and withstands high radial loads. A guided sheet-steel cage guides the rolling elements along the raceways.
The tapered bore, with a 1:12 taper ratio, facilitates fitting onto tapered bearing seats or onto smooth shafts using clamping and withdrawal sleeves. The desired radial bearing clearance can be precisely adjusted by sliding the bearing onto the shaft axially. This also simplifies removal during maintenance work.
The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring of the roller bearing. During maintenance work, grease or lubricating oil flows through these channels directly into the space between the rows of rollers. This ensures targeted distribution of the lubricant across the entire width of the raceway.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard tolerance. It provides the necessary clearance prior to installation to compensate for the reduction in bearing clearance when the tapered inner ring is pressed into place. It also helps to accommodate temperature-related differences between the inner ring and the outer ring without causing jamming.
The spherical roller bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 bearing steel retains its dimensional stability within this range. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the actual operating limits depend on the lubricant selected and the housing seal.
The bearing combines the standard dimensional accuracy PN with the tighter running accuracy of tolerance class P5. The mounting dimensions comply with the standard specifications for standard fits, whilst the raceways are manufactured to a higher degree of accuracy. This counteracts vibrations and promotes smooth concentricity.
