The SKF 23220 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing with a tapered bore (100 × 180 × 60.3 mm) reliably compensates for misalignment under heavy radial loads.
The SKF 23220 CCK/W33 double-row self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high radial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding combined axial loads. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the roller bearing self-aligns, thereby compensating for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The SKF Explorer quality version is made from hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), features a robust sheet steel cage and is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
This open bearing is primarily used in shaft mountings subject to high combined loads. Wherever elastic deformation of the shaft occurs or misalignment between bearing seats is unavoidable due to the design, the self-aligning function counteracts additional edge stresses. The W33 version, with an integrated lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring, allows for targeted relubrication of grease directly into the area between the rows of rollers.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. The bearing can either be mounted directly onto a tapered shaft seat or fixed to cylindrical shafts using a mounting or withdrawal sleeve. Controlled axial sliding allows the remaining radial bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted. The combination of standard dimensional accuracy PN and restricted running accuracy to tolerance class P5 ensures smooth, low-vibration concentricity.
The designation CC stands for symmetrical rollers without a fixed flange on the inner ring and a pressed sheet steel cage. The ‘K’ refers to the tapered inner bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. The suffix ‘W33’ describes a circumferential lubrication groove, together with lubrication holes in the outer ring, to ensure a uniform supply of lubricant.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 100 mm at the bore, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 60.3 mm. These main dimensions comply with the metric standard for rolling bearings. Due to its tapered design, the dimension 100 mm serves as the theoretical nominal value at the large diameter of the tapered bore.
This roller bearing combines the standard dimensional accuracy of tolerance class PN with a tighter running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. The tighter tolerances on the raceways reduce concentricity errors and promote smooth, low-vibration operation at higher speeds. This supports uniform load distribution during operation.
As an open roller bearing without integrated seals, the product requires external lubrication with grease or lubricating oil, as well as a seal on the housing side to protect against dirt. The W33 feature, comprising a lubrication groove and bores in the outer ring, allows lubricant to be applied directly between the two rows of rollers.
When unmounted, the bearing has the standard radial clearance. When the inner ring is pressed onto a mounting sleeve or a tapered seat, the ring expands elastically. This measurably reduces the radial clearance. Maintaining the specified residual bearing clearance protects against overheating and bearing damage.
