The SKF 23040 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing features a 200 mm bore, increased C3 clearance and automatically compensates for misalignment during operation.
The SKF 23040 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for industrial applications involving high radial loads. Measuring 200 × 310 × 82 mm, this open bearing is used in applications where shaft deflection may occur. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the roller pack self-aligns during operation. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements, whilst the temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees opens up a wide range of applications in industrial maintenance.
This rolling bearing is primarily designed for heavy-duty shaft mountings in mechanical and plant engineering, where significant radial loads and axial forces act simultaneously. Typical applications include situations involving shaft deflection or misalignment. As this is an open design, the construction integrates the bearing into a housing with external lubrication. The P5 precision class ensures smooth running characteristics during continuous operation.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. It compensates for thermal expansion at higher operating temperatures or with tight fits, ensuring that the roller assembly rotates freely. The suffix W33 refers to a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This feature facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed, as the lubricant reaches directly between the two rows of rollers. Before installation, always check the dimensions: 200 mm inner diameter and 310 mm outer diameter.
With an internal diameter of 200 mm, an external diameter of 310 mm and a width of 82 mm, the bearing corresponds exactly to the specified main dimensions. To ensure correct installation, the mounting dimensions of the shaft and the housing must be precisely matched to these values.
Bearing clearance class C3 provides greater radial clearance than the standard version. If temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight fits cause the bearing rings to expand, this additional clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed.
The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. These channels allow lubricant to be applied directly to the area between the rows of rollers. This simplifies regular maintenance and relubrication within the housing without the need for dismantling.
As an open design, this SKF bearing has no integrated seals. It therefore requires a housing with external sealing elements, such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals. These keep the lubricant within the bearing chamber and protect the raceways from the ingress of contaminants.
The roller bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage, can be used at temperatures between -30 and +200 degrees. The material retains its dimensional stability within this temperature range. The lubricant used must also be suitable for the temperatures encountered during operation.
This bearing is characterised by the combination of standard dimensional accuracy (PN) and the enhanced running accuracy of class P5. Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with standardised tolerances, the finer P5 running accuracy ensures precise concentricity and reduces vibrations during operation.
