The SKF 23034 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing, measuring 170 × 260 × 67 mm, provides a robust bearing solution for high radial loads and misalignment.
The SKF 23034 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications, with a bore of 170 mm, an outer diameter of 260 mm and a width of 67 mm. As an open bearing made from roller bearing steel (100Cr6), it withstands high radial forces and is designed to compensate for static and dynamic angular misalignment between the shaft and housing. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the sets of rollers over a wide temperature range from –30 to +200 degrees.
This self-aligning roller bearing is primarily used in industrial bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads where shaft deflection occurs. Thanks to the crowned rollers and the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing adjusts to misalignment with angular adjustment without generating impermissible edge stresses. Design engineers prefer to use the open design in enclosed assemblies where on-site oil or grease lubrication is provided and high radial shock loads are present.
The designation W33 denotes a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This feature facilitates targeted relubrication, as the lubricant reaches directly between the rows of rollers. This design combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5, which improves concentricity during operation. Before installation, check whether the standard radial bearing clearance is suitable for your operational fits and thermal conditions.
A double-row roller bearing with a 170 mm bore, 260 mm outer diameter and 67 mm width. The CC version features pressed sheet steel cages, whilst the suffix W33 indicates a lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. The bearing, made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, compensates for shaft misalignment and withstands temperatures between –30 and +200 degrees.
The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove and holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This allows grease or lubricating oil to be directed, during maintenance, directly into the centre of the bearing and between the two rows of rolling elements. This ensures even distribution of the lubricant at the contact points and simplifies relubrication within the housing.
The designation P5 indicates a tighter tolerance for concentricity compared with the standard class Normal (PN). Whilst the mounting dimensions, such as the bore and outer diameter, comply with the standard PN tolerances, the P5 running accuracy reduces the radial and axial runout of the bearing rings during operation, contributing to smoother running.
As the bearing does not have integrated sealing washers, the surrounding housing seals must prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. At the same time, the open design requires a specified initial and subsequent lubrication with grease or oil to prevent dry running. However, it does allow for a free choice of lubricant and direct visual inspection.
The design is intended for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. This temperature range is determined by the dimensional stability of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage. In the case of continuously high operating temperatures, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used and any external sealing elements are also suitable for these conditions.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set clearance between the rollers and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It is designed for standard fits on shafts and housings, as well as for applications without unusual temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. After press-fitting, sufficient operating clearance remains to ensure even load distribution.
