The SKF 23030 CC/C3W33 spherical roller bearing features a 150 mm bore, C3 radial clearance and a circumferential lubrication groove for heavy-duty industrial applications.
The 23030 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an SKF rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with main dimensions of 150 x 225 x 56 mm. The design accommodates high radial loads as well as axial forces on both sides and automatically compensates for misalignment or shaft deflection during operation. Designed as an open bearing, the construction requires external sealing. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the symmetrical rollers within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
Typical applications include heavy-duty machine mountings subject to high radial loads and shafts with low bending stiffness. Where housing deformation or misalignment occurs, the spherical outer ring raceway compensates for misalignment without causing excessive edge stresses. Thanks to its P5 tolerance class for running accuracy, the bearing is suitable for designs with high requirements for concentricity. The standardised main dimensions enable a precise fit in corresponding standard housings.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This additional radial clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by heating during operation or for tight fits on the 150 mm shaft, thereby preventing stress concentrations. The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This allows lubricant to reach the rolling elements directly and evenly, which facilitates relubrication in open bearings.
This spherical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 150 mm, an outer diameter of 225 mm and a width of 56 mm. The dimensional accuracy complies with the standard class PN, whilst the running accuracy is to the tighter tolerance class P5. Thanks to these standardised dimensions, the bearing fits into suitable industrial housings.
This combination describes key design details. The letter code CC stands for symmetrical rollers and a guided sheet steel cage. The abbreviation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance to provide a thermal reserve. W33 refers to the lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring for direct lubricant supply.
The C3 bearing clearance provides greater radial clearance than the standard version. This prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed when the shaft and bearing rings expand at different rates due to high operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees. This radial clearance also compensates for the reduction in diameter that occurs when the inner ring is pressed onto the shaft.
The outer ring features a circumferential lubrication groove with holes (feature W33). Fresh grease or lubricating oil is fed directly into the bearing, ensuring that all rollers are lubricated evenly. As no integrated sealing washers are fitted, housing seals must prevent the escape of lubricant and the ingress of dirt.
The roller bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage, is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The key to long-term operation within these temperature limits is the selection of a lubricant that can withstand the thermal stresses of the respective industrial application.
A spherical roller bearing can accommodate very high radial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding axial loads on both sides. The barrel-shaped rollers move on a hollow spherical outer ring raceway, which compensates for angular movements between the shaft and housing without any loss of function. This ensures that power transmission remains stable even when the shaft deflects.
