The SKF 22230 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 150x270x73 mm, features a lubrication groove and enhanced P5 running accuracy for demanding industrial applications.
The 22230 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a rolling bearing designed for heavy-duty industrial applications where high radial forces and axial guidance forces are present. The manufacturer, SKF, produces this open bearing from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a cylindrical bore of 150 mm, an outer diameter of 270 mm and a width of 73 mm. Thanks to the two symmetrical rows of rollers, the design automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The component is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
This rolling bearing is suitable for machine designs in which high radial loads and shock loads act on the shaft. Thanks to its angular contact design, the bearing compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings without an unacceptable increase in friction. Typical applications include bearing locations subject to demanding load conditions and deflections in general mechanical engineering. Thanks to its open design, the bearing can be integrated directly into lubricated housings and flexibly connected to existing lubrication systems.
The suffix W33 refers to a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This design facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed, as the lubricant reaches directly between the rows of rollers. The tolerance class combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with increased running accuracy to P5. The latter reduces runout error during operation. During assembly, the standard radial bearing clearance must be observed; this will reduce to the required operating clearance once the bearing has been pressed onto the seat.
With an internal diameter of 150 mm, an external diameter of 270 mm and a width of 73 mm, this bearing has standardised industrial dimensions. Thanks to its cylindrical bore, you can mount the bearing directly onto a cylindrical shaft or, in conjunction with suitable bearing seats, within the housing.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated sealing washers. This allows the lubricant to circulate freely within the housing, and dirt particles can be removed when the lubricant is changed. This design requires an external housing seal, but in return allows for use at higher operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees, as well as the freedom to choose between grease or oil lubrication.
At SKF, the designation ‘CC’ refers to an internal design comprising two window-type sheet steel cages, an inner ring without a guide ring, and symmetrical rollers. This design aids the guidance of the rolling elements, keeps friction within the bearing low and enables favourable load distribution across the entire length of the rollers. The sheet steel cage guides the rollers whilst maintaining dimensional stability and withstanding high temperatures.
The designation W33 indicates that the outer ring has a circumferential groove and lubrication holes. This allows fresh lubricant to be fed directly into the centre of the bearing. The lubricant is distributed evenly across both rows of rollers, which reduces maintenance requirements and facilitates targeted relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation.
This bearing combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) for the bore and outer diameter with enhanced running accuracy of class P5. This means that standard mounting dimensions can be used, whilst the improved concentricity dampens vibrations and ensures smooth running. This feature is particularly advantageous at higher speeds or in demanding shaft guidance applications.
The component is specified for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) used, as well as the design featuring a sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. In the event of persistently high operating temperatures, users simply need to ensure that the selected lubricant and external seals are designed to withstand this thermal load.
