The SKF 22222 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing, with a bore of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 200 mm and a C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity under shaft deflection.
The SKF 22222 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding mechanical loads in mechanical engineering. With an inner diameter of 110 mm, an outer diameter of 200 mm and a width of 53 mm, this roller bearing accommodates high radial forces and combined axial forces. The barrel-shaped rollers run on a common hollow spherical outer ring raceway. This geometry automatically compensates for misalignment or elastic shaft deflection during operation without causing additional edge pressure.
This bearing design is particularly useful where shaft deflection or misalignment occurs between the bearing locations. The component compensates for both static and dynamic angular misalignments directly within the rolling element set. As this bearing is of an open design, lubrication is applied externally. A lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring directs grease or oil directly to both rows of rollers, which facilitates relubrication during maintenance.
The C3 designation defines an increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance is necessary when thermal expansion occurs due to tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. In addition, the design combines dimensional accuracy class PN with running accuracy class P5. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements on the raceways made of 100Cr6 roller bearing steel.
With an internal diameter of 110 mm, an external diameter of 200 mm and a width of 53 mm, the bearing requires a specific installation space. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the mounting dimensions of the surrounding shaft and the housing must correspond exactly to these nominal dimensions prior to installation.
C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for dimensional contraction caused by tight fits or operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, and prevents jamming during operation.
Lubricant is fed directly between the two rows of rollers via the lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. As the bearing is an open design without sealing washers, it requires an external lubricant supply. Grease or lubricating oil is distributed evenly across the raceways via the holes.
The combination of standard dimensional accuracy (PN) and higher-precision running accuracy (P5) ensures low run-out errors during operation. Whilst the mating dimensions for the shaft and housing adhere to standardised tolerances, the P5 running accuracy reduces mechanical oscillations and vibrations in the running shaft train.
Designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees, the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. The external lubricant used must be suitable for this temperature range in order to maintain a load-bearing lubricating film in the contact area of the rolling elements.
The hollow-spherical outer ring raceway allows the two rows of rollers to align freely. In the event of elastic shaft deflection or misalignment of the housing, the inner ring, together with the set of rollers, pivots relative to the outer ring. This self-compensating angular adjustment prevents excessive edge stresses on the rollers and protects the bearing components.
