The 22220 E self-aligning roller bearing, with dimensions of 100 × 180 × 46 mm, accommodates heavy radial loads and compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing.
The SKF 22220 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing in the Explorer performance class for demanding industrial applications. It features a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, allowing the cylindrical rollers to adjust their angle. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this design combines standard dimensional accuracy PN with increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5. As an open roller bearing, it requires an external lubrication system, which can be supplied via the integrated lubrication groove.
The 22220 E self-aligning roller bearing is particularly suitable for heavy-duty applications in general mechanical engineering where elastic shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. It withstands high radial forces whilst simultaneously supporting axial loads acting from both sides. Typical applications include industrial shafts subject to continuous heavy loads and heavy-duty shaft guides. Thanks to its robust sheet steel cage and suitability for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees, the component retains its dimensional stability even under fluctuating thermal conditions.
As an open component, the bearing requires a suitable lubricant and protection against the ingress of contaminants prior to commissioning. The lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring allows targeted relubrication directly into the interior of the rolling element rows. During installation, the standard radial bearing clearance must also be taken into account: this is reduced by the press fit on the shaft, ensuring that the necessary operating clearance for smooth concentricity is maintained during operation.
This roller bearing has a cylindrical bore of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 46 mm. These geometric parameters comply with the specifications of the dimensional series for industrial self-aligning roller bearings and define the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing seat.
The lubrication groove on the outer circumference is fitted with lubrication holes so that grease or lubricating oil can be fed directly between the two rows of rollers. This greatly simplifies regular maintenance whilst the unit is installed, as the lubricant is distributed evenly across all working surfaces of the rolling elements.
The sheet steel cage guides the symmetrical barrel rollers precisely along their paths and keeps the component weight to a moderate level. It is characterised by good strength at medium to high speeds and can easily withstand the full permissible temperature range of the rolling bearing, from -30 to +200 degrees.
In this version, dimensional accuracy is maintained to the standard PN class, meaning that the external dimensions comply with the usual installation tolerances. Running accuracy, on the other hand, complies with the more precise P5 tolerance class, which results in lower run-out deviations and contributes to particularly low-vibration and smooth running.
No, this model is an open roller bearing without integrated grinding or cover discs. The lubricant must therefore be retained within the surrounding housing by means of external seals, which in turn allows for a flexible choice of lubricant and makes relubrication straightforward.
