The SKF 22216 E self-aligning roller bearing (80x140x33 mm) compensates for angular misalignment and withstands heavy radial loads during operation.
The 22216 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 140 mm and a width of 33 mm, this open bearing corresponds to SKF’s Explorer series. The design combines PN dimensional accuracy with a finer P5 running accuracy. This makes the bearing suitable for industrial shaft support applications where misalignment occurs and uniform concentricity is required.
This bearing accommodates combined loads with a predominant radial component and compensates for both static and dynamic misalignments of the shaft. Typical applications include heavily loaded shaft mountings with deflection or misalignment. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the barrel rollers can adjust their angle without causing additional edge pressure on the rolling elements.
The outer ring features a lubrication groove with lubrication holes, which facilitates targeted relubrication during operation. As this is an open design, protection against contamination is determined by the external lubricant and housing seals. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rollers at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees. The P5 tolerance class for running accuracy reduces runout deviations compared with standard tolerance alone.
With an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a width of 33 mm, this roller bearing complies with standardised industrial dimensions. These dimensions allow it to be fitted onto cylindrical shaft seats and into suitable housings, provided that the mounting surfaces are precisely matched to these nominal dimensions.
This classification combines the standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with the tighter running accuracy of Class P5. The main dimensions fall within the standard range, whilst the run-out deviations of the inner and outer rings are significantly reduced. This contributes to low-vibration operation at higher speeds.
A circumferential groove with several lubrication holes in the outer ring directs grease or lubricating oil directly between the two rows of rollers. This design feature simplifies regular maintenance via the bearing housing, as the lubricant is distributed symmetrically to the contact zones and aids heat dissipation.
This is an open bearing design without integrated sealing washers. Protection against dirt, moisture and lubricant loss must be provided by means of external housing seals. Open bearings allow for flexible selection of the lubricant to suit the specific operating conditions.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. Where operating temperatures are consistently high, the lubricant must be selected to withstand these temperatures.
The designation ‘standard radial bearing clearance’ means that the rolling bearing has a standard operating clearance prior to installation. This design is suitable for conventional fit specifications on shafts and housings, as well as for uniform thermal operating conditions without extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
