The SKF 22208 E self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 40x80x23 mm, can withstand high radial loads and flexibly compensates for misalignment.
The SKF 22208 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for heavy mechanical loads. It supports shafts under combined radial and axial loads. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing adjusts its angle, thereby compensating for misalignment or shaft deflection. The open design, made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6), allows for flexible use with oil or grease lubrication in a wide variety of industrial units.
The 22208 E self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high radial forces on rotating components whilst simultaneously compensating for misalignment. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering for shaft guides subject to high loads and prone to misalignment. Thanks to the integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers. The component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
As the bearing is designed as an open variant, the surrounding structure requires an external housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture. The dimensional accuracy PN complies with standard values, whilst the running accuracy P5 ensures enhanced concentricity. With standard radial bearing clearance, the component is suitable for typical fit conditions and moderate operating temperatures. The sheet steel cage guides the barrel-shaped rollers in an orderly manner along the raceways during operation.
The spherical roller bearing has a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width across flats of 23 mm. These dimensions allow it to be fitted onto cylindrical shaft journals in suitable housing bores in mechanical and plant engineering.
Grease or lubricating oil is fed directly into the bearing via the circumferential groove and the radial lubrication holes in the outer ring. This ensures an even distribution of lubricant between the two rows of rollers and facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is fitted, via the housing.
The designation P5 indicates increased running accuracy compared with the standard tolerance PN. This reduces radial runout during operation. Components with P5 run with lower vibration and are suitable for applications where precise shaft guidance and smooth running characteristics are required.
Thanks to the shared hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the roller sets can align themselves in an oscillating manner together with the inner ring. As a result, the 22208 E spherical roller bearing compensates for misalignment, housing offset and elastic shaft deflection during operation without causing edge pressure on the rollers.
The roller bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and featuring a sheet steel cage, is designed for temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. Where high thermal demands apply, a lubricant must be selected whose specification is approved for this temperature range.
The bearing is an open type without integrated sealing washers. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles or moisture and to avoid lubricant loss, the surrounding housing must be fitted with suitable seals, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
