The SKF 22322-ek spherical roller bearing, with a 1:12 tapered bore, an outer diameter of 240 mm and a width of 80 mm, offers high load-carrying capacity under misalignment conditions.
The 22322-ek self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row rolling bearing designed for demanding mechanical loads. This SKF component accommodates heavy radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces in both directions. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel, the bearing housing retains its dimensional stability under continuous loading.
This roller bearing is used in designs where high radial forces occur in combination with additional axial forces and where elastic deformations of the shaft must be taken into account. The symmetrical arrangement of the two rows of rollers ensures that the load is distributed evenly across the rolling elements. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the lubricant reaches the contact surfaces between the rollers and raceways unhindered. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +200 °C, covering a wide thermal operating range.
The suffix refers to the tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. The bearing can be mounted directly onto a suitably tapered shaft seat or, using a mounting or withdrawal sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. The integrated sheet steel cage separates and guides the rolling elements precisely whilst having a low mass. The design with standard radial bearing clearance takes into account that the radial clearance is reduced due to expansion when the inner ring is press-fitted onto the tapered seat.
The designation refers to a series 22322 spherical roller bearing with a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper ratio. This version is designed for mounting on tapered shaft seats or using mounting sleeves, and compensates for operational angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing.
The bearing has an outer diameter of 240 mm and a width of 80 mm. The bore is tapered with a 1:12 taper. These key dimensions make the roller bearing suitable for solid shaft mountings in heavy machinery and plant engineering.
Bearings with a tapered bore are mounted onto tapered seats or fitted using mounting or withdrawal sleeves. When fitted axially, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the internal clearance. The fit is checked in practice by measuring the reduction in radial clearance using a feeler gauge.
The 22322-ek self-aligning roller bearing does not have integrated sealing washers. This allows the bearing to be flexibly lubricated with grease or oil via the surrounding bearing housing. A suitable external housing seal must be fitted to protect against dirt and moisture.
Thanks to the standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage, this model can be operated within a temperature range of -30 to +200 °C. This requires the use of a lubricant that is suitable for the bearing’s operating temperature.
The standard bearing clearance is the design specification ex works prior to assembly. As the radial clearance is intended to decrease when the inner ring is driven onto the tapered seat, this initial clearance ensures correct operation once the specified interference fit on the shaft has been achieved.
