The SKF 24044 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, with a 220 mm bore, compensates for shaft deflection and accommodates heavy radial loads.
The SKF 24044 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for heavy mechanical loads. With main dimensions of 220 × 340 × 118 mm, this rolling bearing is suitable for industrial applications where high radial forces act on the shaft. The hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the bearing to self-align. The roller set automatically compensates for misalignment and elastic deflection of the shaft during operation. You receive an open bearing made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design.
This bearing design is primarily used in heavy-duty industrial drives and shaft mountings where high combined loads occur. As shafts can yield elastically under radial and axial forces, the self-aligning bearing compensates for misalignment and reduces edge pressures at the ends of the rollers. With a temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the component withstands thermal fluctuations during operation. The open design allows for flexible lubrication with grease or oil via the customer-supplied lubrication system.
The suffix W33 denotes an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Maintenance personnel can apply lubricant directly between the roller rings, which facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation. At the same time, the combination of standard dimensional accuracy PN and increased running accuracy P5 ensures smooth running characteristics and low radial runout. A sheet steel cage is used to guide the rolling elements. When designing the system, it must be borne in mind that the open bearing requires an external housing seal to protect against contamination.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 220 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width across flats of 118 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised 240 series for self-aligning roller bearings with high radial load capacity.
The abbreviation CC refers to the internal design featuring a sheet steel cage. The designation W33 indicates a circumferential groove with several lubrication holes in the outer ring, through which lubricant is directed to the roller rings.
This roller bearing has a standard radial clearance. Before installation, the radial clearance falls within the standard range for cylindrical bores. In the case of tight-fit installations, this operating clearance is reduced accordingly once the bearing is fitted.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage are designed to withstand this temperature range. This operating range must also be taken into account when selecting the lubricant.
The dimensional accuracy of the connection dimensions, such as bore, outer diameter and width, complies with the standard tolerance PN. The internal running accuracy of the raceways corresponds to the tighter tolerance class P5. As a result, the shaft runs precisely and with minimal vibration within the housing at operating speed.
Yes, this is an open bearing without integrated grinding or cover discs. Dirt, dust and moisture must not be allowed to enter the bearing chamber. The bearing therefore requires external seals in the housing as well as a regulated relubrication system.
