The SKF 23088 CAK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, with its tapered bore and brass cage, offers a high-load-capacity solution for heavy-duty industrial applications with a shaft diameter of 440 mm.
The SKF 23088 CAK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row large-size bearing designed for high radial and axial loads. With key dimensions of a 440 mm bore, 650 mm outside diameter and 157 mm width, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment. The standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6 gives the raceways high wear resistance. The open design allows for direct integration into centralised lubrication systems.
This large-diameter rolling bearing is primarily used in heavy machinery and plant engineering where shaft deflection or housing displacement occurs. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes and heavily loaded large machines subject to high static and dynamic forces. The bearing accommodates misalignment between the inner and outer rings without adversely increasing friction. The brass cage guides the rolling elements stably along the raceway, even under severe vibrations and shock loads.
The designation ‘K’ indicates a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design allows for direct mounting on tapered shaft seats or flexible installation on cylindrical shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves. The axial displacement allows the bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted during press-fitting. The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, through which lubricant is fed directly between the two rows of rollers.
The large bearing has an inner diameter of 440 mm, an outer diameter of 650 mm and a width of 157 mm. The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and is therefore suitable for standardised large housings used in heavy-duty industrial applications.
The letter combination CA refers to symmetrical rollers with a dimensionally stable, solid brass cage. The designation letter K stands for the conical internal bore with a 1:12 taper. The abbreviation W33 denotes a circumferential groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring for targeted relubrication.
A tapered bore significantly simplifies assembly and disassembly on heavy shafts, particularly when used in conjunction with hydraulic shrink sleeves. Furthermore, the remaining radial bearing clearance can be precisely controlled when sliding the component onto the tapered seat and adjusted to the required operating fit.
The open bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with a brass cage, is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. In practical use, it is primarily the thermal stability of the lubricating oil or grease supplied that determines the actual operating limit of the bearing location.
The model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. As the bearing clearance naturally decreases when the inner ring is pressed onto a tapered seat, the remaining operating clearance should be checked using a feeler gauge during the assembly process.
The W33 version features a groove with bores in the outer ring. Lubricant is fed directly into the centre of the bearing via an external lubrication port on the housing and is distributed evenly across both rows of rollers.
