The 23956 -MB spherical roller bearing from FAG Wälzlager, with dimensions of 280 × 380 × 75 mm and a brass cage, offers high load-carrying capacity for large industrial gearboxes and heavy-duty shaft mountings.
The 23956 -MB self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. It accommodates high radial loads as well as combined axial forces. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Designed as an open bearing, this version requires an external housing seal and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
This large bearing is primarily used in heavy-duty mechanical engineering and industrial gearboxes. The design proves its worth in applications where rigid mountings would be overloaded due to shaft deflection or misalignment. Thanks to the design of the rolling elements, the component transmits high forces whilst maintaining a constant rotational movement. In enclosed machine housings with a controlled lubricant supply, the roller bearing operates reliably under demanding conditions.
The bearing features a brass cage (suffix -MB), which is more resistant to shocks, vibrations and high acceleration forces than standard sheet metal cages. For relubrication, the outer ring has a lubrication groove with integrated lubrication holes. This allows the lubricant to reach directly between the two rows of rollers. Manufacture to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, with standard radial bearing clearance, ensures a precise fit under normal installation and operating conditions.
The 23956-MB spherical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 280 mm, an outer diameter of 380 mm and a width of 75 mm. These dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in standardised housing bores and on suitably machined shaft seats.
The suffix -MB indicates a solid brass cage. Brass cages offer greater strength and impact resistance than simple sheet metal cages. They are suitable for demanding conditions involving vibrations, varying speeds and increased acceleration forces in continuous industrial operation.
The lubricant enters directly into the space between the rows of rollers via the circumferential lubrication groove and the lubrication holes in the outer ring. As this is an open bearing without sealing washers, the lubricant is supplied and the bearing is sealed by the surrounding housing system.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +200 degrees. Both the standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the brass cage are designed for this range. When designing the bearing assembly, the lubricant used must be suitable for the relevant temperature range.
The model is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1) and has a standard radial bearing clearance. This standard version is suitable for standard installation conditions with typical fits on the shaft and in the housing.
In a spherical roller bearing, the outer ring has a hollow spherical raceway on which the spherical rollers can adjust their position freely. In the event of misalignment or slight shaft deflection, the inner ring, together with the set of rollers, pivots within the outer ring, thereby preventing damaging edge pressures on the rolling elements.
